Only an honorable mention for me. :(

Alas! I'm very sorry to hear that. One hopes you can find other funding soon - your research is seriously more applicable than mine, Mr. "I do Awesome Security Shit." I should put you in touch with a certain friend of mine who's somewhat responsible for RFID, actually, if you like, for geekery's sake if nothing else.

(thanks!)

Funding shouldn't be an issue for me... It's just mostly for the prestige (and the extra $400-$500/mo. stipend...)

I'm a little curious why they only squeezed 286 extra fellowships out of their ARRA funds (they got $45.56 million, which should be enough for ~375 fellowships, but maybe some of that money will be deferred to next year?), but I'm not too concerned.

Yeah, I don't know; maybe they reserved some money for the next few years to buffer? I really have no clue. The whole way that the federal government funds things is honestly a black box with a crazy witch lady with a crystal ball going "ooooo I see an NSF grant in your future" and cackling.

I'll send him your contact info and suggest he poke you. He's in Boston most of the time, so face-to-face is hard :^)

The first talk at the conference I'm at gave a practical, complete break on the Mifare cards used in the CharlieCard system. All you need is a couple of seconds with a card and you're done.

*snerk* I don't really care if someone manages to yoink my card data and rides the T with it. I can reasonably claim theft without knowledge/malice on my part. My concern would be more for credit card info and that sort, which concerns me less with the CharlieCard system than it does for ORCA (the online interface isn't helping).
