In world news today a Japanese princess relinquished her title to marry a commoner. Real life romantic fairy tales are real... and that gives me a nice warm feeling, like one of those little black soots in the Miyazaki films.
I'm becoming addicted to movable type. Taking bits of metal with letters on them and arranging individually into words, then sentences, then paragraphs, then pages, then books... I could be content setting type for the next five years. The current project for Type class is making a small book edition printed in the machines. Mine is a collection of poetry that deals with the actual bookmaking room. Things like rhymes for putting the type back in the proper places in the right case, cleaning ink from the type, stuff like that. But the jewel of this book will be the final poem; a warning to people with long hair that work around the presses. One little lock of hair near the spinning rollers and you will lose half your scalp. Here is an example:
She had caught his eye, or so she thought
‘til round the roller her hair was caught!
Pulled ‘til her face was pressed to the type
Her cheek had bled and she shrieked with fright.
The boy grabbed sheers but to his dismay
Part of her scalp had been ripped away.
“Bloody Roller Press” I think shall be the Press name I give the edition. Yeah… I’ve been on some sort of horror kick as of late.
I’ve been searching around for publications that will accept short stories, mostly from ‘Writer’s Market Guide’. Not many good places for a little slight fantasy and humor. I actually found a publication called “Celestial Products” that publishes gay fantasy erotica. Checked out if they still exist, haven’t got a clue. Think I should submit something?
Next semester might be a bit crazy, most of the classes that I want won’t let me in and I need those credits. Sigh. EBRUNO doesn’t like me.
I’ve been drawing more and more lately, mostly to procrastinate against doing actual schoolwork. However none of the pictures have made it to DA because they are all unfinished.
I think my Winter Break will be spent going over drafts of stories and trying to send a few manuscripts out. Wish me luck. ^_^
