So far winter has been good. A couple of cold wet spells, but not too much mud (although we did have to tow our friends out when they came to visit on Saturday!)
I have been busy at my new job. I am not used to all the physical work, so I have been feeling a little tired and achey, but it's a good type of tired, so much healthier for me than my old job!
It has meant that I haven't done that much with the horses though.
Yesterday I had the afternoon off, so made the most of the opportunity to work with the weanlings. It took me 2.5 hours to get the 4 halters on. They don't lead yet, but we had lots of cuddles and trying to convince them that I am a friend and not a predator. Some need more work than others.
Lunar, the pure arab, is the worst. As stubborn as her mother, but just beautiful. Lovely long, fine legs, in fact more my type of horse than her dam, am very pleased with her, but she totally doesn't want to know me! Much more friendly game needed for her. I think it took me an hour if not longer to get her halter on, not helped by the fact that the yards are the muddiest place on our property!
Soleil, our half arab pony, is the best. Not spooky, not explosive, and much more open to cuddles. Am VERY pleased with Romeo's first baby, she has totally inherited his laid back temperament, and not her mother's! Dee can be a REAL tart.
Gin (Ginger, the anglo) and Bonji (pinto, 25% arab) were both small handfuls, but much progress.
Now they all have halters on with long bits of string.
Not up to the stage of catching them in the paddocks, but should hopefully be easy enough in the yards.
More working on them as soon as I get a chance! Hopefully within the next week or so.
