so the student have finally won their battle against the unpopular law. at first, i had a really hard time understanding what the big fuss was, especially since firing people in the US is so normal. and having all those manifestations really disrupted lifem and i know it wasn't even bad here. but now i think i finally get it. the french are truly unique in that they really truly believe they can change anything the govt does. i used to think that french university students are basically same as american but now i see the difference in spirit. the french simply believe that if they make enough noise, use enough reason, they can change anything. and i see this happening on a smaller scale in classes too, if the teacher has done something that they think is unfair. and the people in power listen (mostly because they are forced to) and so things do get changed. in united states, strikes, walks, rallies, are much more for symbolic reasons. i don't get the feeling in US that these people actually truly believe they can force those in power to change. and most of the time, they dont have the courage to go all the way, to call national strikes, to shut down the country because somewhere before we get to that step, someone always backs out, whether fearing others will respect us less or that it would harm economy/country and so it never gets accomplished. americans do believe they can change things, but it's so much more in theory, whereas this is one aspect where the french is very practical. and so, i congratulate them on a true success.
but as i sidenote, i'd have to say taht french people are really funny/strange. some random guy stopped me and my friend on the street and started speaking english to us and basically wouldn't stop talking. so we stood on a street corner for 1.5 hours talking to this guy. and there were moments of silence where me and my friend kind of looked at each other like "we should go" but then he would just say something again like "i bought a new computer last week" and go into the specific functions of that computer. so funny. and also the professor teaching the now very messed up class turned from being very nice to very mean. we were in love with him at the beginning and today, he saw us outside his office looking very lost and confused and just basically closed the door in our face. but that's a whole other story... but all is kind of better now, exams have been rescheduled. we were supposed to give an expose to the professor, but since he slammed the door on us...we'll see.
basically, french women are too intense and french men are just scary. and they really need to stop making kissing noises on the street.
