First day of the Fall semester was today. I only have one class per day, and today was the 2 hour Human Anatomy lecture/3 hour lab. I must say, my Principles of Human Anatomy teacher last year was a fucking bad professor. His good looks got the best of me for the first months, seriously. I have this amazing lady who studied at Cornell University for lecture, and I liked her immediately. She wasn't harsh, she made jokes, she made the material fun, and the only thing that goes towards points in the final grade are the four exams. No essays. My lab teacher, who is a legend among anything medical related at SC, Robin McFarland, proved her strictness yet inspirational ability this afternoon.
My teacher last semester was just awful and now I see why. Both of these new teachers immediately explained that this is an INTENSE and DEMANDING course that requires MUCH more than the average study time per day/week. It's not only recommended to get 3 extra lab hours per week, but 6 hours is even better. They both will have study guides rather than spouting out what 'might' be on upcoming exams, and their notes are straightforward, and they EXPLAINED things. Last semester, Edgehouse would go off, for example, about the posterior side of the epigastric lateral region without any thought as to explaining this to us. Today, both professors very simply threw in (whatever the term may be, I'm going to use the one above), that epi means around and gastric pertains to the stomach, lateral is towards the sides, therefore making lateral epigastric. I already knew this, but I sure as hell wouldn't have gotten that last semester without any explanation. So I'm feeling more confident.
But anyways, I'm SO glad I got into the class, I'm already having fun, and I can't wait to start doing more hands on work in the coming weeks. I'm going to have to put everything I have into this class and work my effing tail off, but I'm up for it, and I WILL make the time, even if it means making less money. (I do need to figure out some sort of a new work schedule though...I obviously can't be doing Fridays-Sundays anymore, that's when the open labs are). I won't spend a day without studying, or atleast reviewing, so I can make the best of this epic class. And god damn are we lucky to have those human cadavers, so you can bet I'll be spending as much time in the lab when we start on the axial skeleton in a few weeks. And my friend Natalie is in the class, and we have two girls at the table (one who had a Behemoth belt buckle....but a HIM sweater) who are super cool and into it.
Tomorrow is my Psychology class, I'm stoked, I think it'll be fun and very helpful to myself. Hopefully the teacher ist good!
Did I mention I love Anatomy? :) Haha!
