Man, does it need to be a single memory? I guess that we became friends more than ½ a lifetime ago, and that makes it hard to choose…esp. as I consider you to have been one of my closest friends during two completely separate times of my life (Winsor & NYC) &, ultimately, of my life thus far.
From Winsor Days: the CALF plant sale, hours upon hours of reading/discussing L.M. Montgomery books & My Brilliant Career (speaking of which, I’ll never forget your Sybylla costume at amadea’s literary character party, even tho’ I haven’t the faintest recollection of who I was! I remember BJ was Holden Caulfield…who the hell was I?!??), confessing My All-Consuming Crush on one particular RL boy during chemistry class, baking stuff & making fun of dumb sheep at the farm, biking around Millis, pestering you in the photo lab (because I wasn’t cool enough to take photography myself) & your sneaking a photo of aforementioned All-Consuming Crush object during assembly (or, as those wonderful Winsor schedule cards said (& probably still say!), "Asssembly"), our triumphant return as co-presidents our senior year (even if with Lamp we were technically co-editors-in-chief)
From Brooklyn Days: Walking around the corner to Andy’s for dumplings & scallion pancakes (&/or grabbing some dessert from Lassen & Hennings), your berating me for my habit of reading newspapers in bars, drinking milkshakes at Halcyon, drinking port & eating double gloucester (with chives!) at your apartment. Also, your part in insisting that I go out & find a man by "placing myself on display" (so to speak). And, of course, camping out at your place so very many times during those three years: before interviews (when I lived in Jersey), after concerts (when I lived in Queens), after September 11th& when we found out ASF had died.
Naturally, there have been all the stupid tiffs we’ve had over something (or nothing) too...but I love you anyway & prefer not to dwell on those as it is.
I miss you terribly. I hope you’ll e-mail me at first initial+last name at gmail.com, or at least share some horrible memory of me, ‘cause I’m following your lead & posting this one!
