The Nines
This is quite an odd movie.
Ryan ties a green "friendship bracelet" on his wrist...
The Prisoner - Part One
Ryan Reynolds (Gary, an actor) burns his house down and then does drugs. And then the movie starts. He's well crazy. Thinks he doesn't have a belly button and crashes his car. And now he is under house arrest. Well at least he looks HOT. And now he is hearing noises in the house. Melissa McCarthy (a publicist) is the only one he is allowed to talk too. However, he's now met a neighbor Hope Davis (Sarah). And found a piano that plays itself. Truly a strange movie. He's making nice with the neighbor lady. And now there's a song and dance number. And then the Sarah leaves to tend to her baby. And Gary is left listening to the baby monitor. He gets a post it that says "Look for the NINES" and now everything electronic is repeating 9 9 9 9 9 9 9 9 9. Ryan runs away from the house. And Elle Fanning enters the movie, and she doesn't talk just speaks ASL at Ryan. McCarthy has to explain to him what "house arrest" means. McCarthy is moving into the house with Ryan. And now they have a jumping house in the backyard. And now Sarah is angry at Ryan and McCarthy.
"On a scale from 1-10 you belong with the Nines" The Dice keep rolling on to 9.
McCarthy (Margaret) and Davis (Sarah) face off. "for the record I'm not the one decieving him, he'll figure it out and when he does who do you think he'll blame."
Ryan begins to circle all the 9's in the paper. "There's something wrong, there's something wrong with the world....I can get you out of here but you have to trust me."
"Tell me about the Nines" "I'm a nine?" "Yes, doesn't make much sense out of context" Then Ryan goes outside and McCarthy says don't do that...and he steps over the 100ft line and everything explodes in front of him
This is crazier than LOST.
Part Two: Reality
Ryan is now Gavin Taylor who is a show creator for "Knowing". Mellisa McCarthy plays herself and Hope Davis (Susan) is now a production assistant and Elle Fanning is in the movie "Knowing" with Melissa. Melissa talks about knowing Gavin for years. They are back in the same house that "Gary" was trapped in. In a screening of Knowing a man stands up and yells and said Oblivion Approaches in latin. "Forgetting or forgetfulness."
"Look for the nInes, they are the ones who think your show is the best it can be" (talking about the focus group cards)
Gavin writes the post it (Look for the Nines)
Gavin is told that Melissa isn't testing well. So they are trying to figure out what to do with the show. Susan wants to have something bigger for the show. Gavin however is rooting for Melissa for the lead of his show Knowing. Talking about re-shooting. "this is about getting your show on the air." Gavin meets with Dahlia for the lead. Gavin wrote the role for Melissa. Plays video games to "reset." He decides to let Melissa go to get his show on the air. And now Melissa is making a "one woman show"...(her real husband makes a small cameo.) Melissa sings. Gavin thinks his house is haunted. "Your house is haunted by yourself" Gavin tells Melissa that he is replacing her in the show. Melissa gets pissed and yells at Gavin.
UPFRONTS
Here's the schedule of programs that are going to show in the fall so the Advertisement peeps can see it. Gavin hopes to be friends with Melissa again. The whole thing of Reality (is the backstage stuff from Knowing). There own Reality Show. Dahlia's over pilot got picked up...and now his production assistant and Rodger aren't picking up. Gavin's show may not be on the air. Susan Howard screwed Gavin over. Another show had already "tested" with Dahlia. Gavin goes to scream at Susan. Susan wanted to see Gavin betray Melissa. Gavin got screwed over. And he is trying to end the reality show about his show. A lady on the street asks Gavin who he is talking to...and he looks around and the camera crew isn't there.and there is no a 9 circling his head.
"this is as real as anything can be, everything is what it is, but you aren't who you think you are....you are a multi-dimensional being..."
"God is a 10, you're more of a 9"
"I understand but I don't believe you"
Part Three: Knowing
Melissa//Ryan//Elle are all together now. Trying to call and get help for the car that is stopped. It's like they are in Gavin's show. Ryan leaves Elle and Melissa while he searches for help. Ryan runs for help. He sees a woman in the road (Hope Davis)...Ryan is a video game designer. Hope is scared of Ryan and won't help him.
"Why won't you trust me?"
Meanwhile back at the car...Melissa and Elle are talking. Looking at the movie they made earlier together. Elle asks where daddy is and she tells her, be back soon. Hope comes back and talks to Ryan (Gabriel)
"It's weird there are no cars at all" Hope talks about recognizing Gabriel as they walk to her car through the forest.
Melissa tries to contact Daddy. Elle is watching the camera and now it's Part Two : Reality
"God mode, all the powers and you can't be killed"
Hope then tells Ryan that she killed her boyfriend by spiking the water. (as Ryan drinks from her water bottle) Elle finally speaks and says "He's not coming back"
As Ryan collapses in teh forest you see a tattoo IX. Hope kisses her. Sierra (Hope) is killing him...GHB in the water..."this is not a murder its an intervention." Clips of all the different parts.
and now all these other people and telling him he has to come back...he's not human.
Melissa has lost Elle. Elle comes back with Daddy (Ryan).
Melissa knows that Ryan is not human. He's God. Melissa knows.
90 versions of the world. I've destroyed billions of people with a thought.
Everything that is, is because of you and if that's all there is, it's enough.
Melissa tell her, he must leave. He takes off the green string and leaves.
Melissa is in the house with her real husband and Elle. Back to her "real" life. Elle tells her that "he's not coming back" and they fix breakfast. And Snow Patrol plays the credits.
I oddly enjoyed that.
