Book quiz!

I think I mentioned before that I need a reading icon. I'll get to it. Some time.

Stolen from oloriel. Unlike her, I will not translate German quotes, because as far as I know no one not capable of the German language is going to reply to this. (Go ahead, prove me wrong! :p)

First Lines Quiz
1. Pick 10 of your favorite books or series.
2. Post the first sentence of each book. (If one sentence seems too short, post two or three!)
3. Let everyone try to guess the titles and authors of your books.

Here comes the fun!

1.) Though brilliantly sunny, Saturday morning was overcoat weather again, not just topcoat weather, as it had been all week and as everyone had hoped it would stay for the big weekend - the weekend of the Yale game.
(J.D. Salinger, "Franny and Zooey" - guessed by la_mia_cara)

2.) The mermaid rose out of deep water into the stormheart.

3.) „Gestern war er noch gesund“, sagte Maude.

4.) They said later that he rode into the village on a horse the colour of buttermilk, but I saw him walk out of the wood.
(Patricia McKillip, "Winter Rose" - guessed by honigmilch)

5.) Hier fängt die Geschichte an.
(Walter Moers, "Die Stadt der träumenden Bücher" - guessed by oloriel)

6.) When Mr. Bilbo Baggins of Bag End announced that he would shortly be celebrating his eleventy-first birthday with a party of special magnificence, there was much talk and excitement in Hobbiton.
(J.R.R. Tolkien, "The Lord of the Rings" - guessed by la_mia_cara and oloriel)

7.) The airship lumbered low overhead, its long, lined belly a dull smear of silvery light in the fog as it reflected the gas lamps of the city beneath.

(Sergej Lukianenko, "Wächter der Nacht" - guessed by oloriel)

9.) Es war in der Zeit zwischen Neujahr und dem Dreikönigstag.
(Otfried Preußler, "Krabat" - guessed by oloriel)

10.) It was November. Although it was not yet late, the sky was dark when I turned into Laundress Passage. Father had finished for the day, switched off the shop lights and closed the shutters; but so I would not come home to darkness he had left on the light over the stairs to the flat.

To be honest, I just stood in front of my bookcases and picked those books I like best. I know there are some more books I love and would probably list among my favourites, but I do not own them - my parents do, and their copies having always been available to me I never got my own. I am in the process of amending this.
I realise Nr. 9 is not much to go on, but the second line would have been too much of a giveaway :p The first two I don't honestly expect anyone to know (again - go on, prove me wrong!); Nr. 6, however, is so easy I actually thought about leaving it out (but I just love the book too much to do it such injustice).
Have fun guessing!
