Title: By your side
Pairing: Sakurai Sho & Aiba Masaki
Length: One Shot
Rating: PG
Genre: fluff, slight angst (but really just a bit :P)
Disclaimer: I don’t own Sakuraiba. Just the plot.
Note: This One Shot contains little facts from the AnShi episode with Kaga Takeshi. So be aware if you don’t want to be spoiled. I wrote a little summary for those people who maybe didn’t watch the episode, but want to read the fic anyways :)
Since Kaga-san is playing in musicals pretty often, Arashi had to learn something about musicals. Everyone of them was dressed as a different character. Ohno (King), Sho (Queen), Aiba (Pirate), Ninomi (Captain), Jun (Merchant). They had to do a musical training in those outfits after that - when the music was playing they had to walk around, when the music stopped, they had to stop too. (Don’t ask me what kind of sense that training made. I have no idea.) And one time the music stopped exactly at that time when Aiba was staring right at Sho’s exposed chest. So that’s basically it. And for easier understanding… here’s a gif I made.

"I can’t understand why Sho-san wasn’t happy with playing the queen! He looked nice, didn’t he?”
Sheepishly Nino turned his head to find Sho behind him, the annoyed gaze almost frightening his bratty friend. The five guys of Arashi were walking from the studio to their dressing room after they wrapped up another shooting for Arashi ni Shiyagare and laughed about how amazingly ridiculous they looked in those outfits that their guest provided them.
Well, actually just two of them were having a pretty good time teasing the rest of the band.
“Yeah, but the combination of the way too masculine queen and the idiot-like king was the best. Seriously, you should have seen your faces.” It was rare for Jun to join Nino’s bratty chit-chat, but since they were the only ones who wore relatively normal things (in other words not a dress or short puffy pants) the range of teasing their friends was pretty wide. A bit too wide for Sho’s taste.
When the newscaster was just about to smack both of their heads, Jun and Nino started to snigger about how Aiba looked straight into Sho’s cleavage during the shooting. Their words made Sho remembered that certain scene and he froze for a second. And blushed. He started to blush intensely. Slowly he turned his head to look at Aiba who walked next to him, a pensive expression lingering on his face.
The truth was that Sho actually had a crush on Aiba. Or to be more specific - he was pretty much head over heels in love with his friend.
He didn’t know when it happened - the change from friendship to affection. He didn’t know when his heart started to race in a tremendous speed whenever he spent his time with Aiba. Whether they went out drinking together or they were just sitting in the dressing room, chatting about random topics. Sho only knew that this growing feeling inside his body was almost killing him - it felt like his heart would jump right out of his chest any moment whereas his brain didn’t really work normally anymore. He remembered one time when his hands suddenly moved on their own, wanting to stroke Aiba’s bangs out of his face when the young man passed out on Sho’s couch; unable to move anymore after they spent the whole night drinking together.
And as much as Sho tried to ignore this feeling at first, he had to admit to himself that Aiba was much more than just a normal or best friend to him.
Nino and Jun continued to giggle and Ohno joined them with a loud yawn when they finally entered their dressing room. Sho looked away from Aiba again and tried to calm his heart down a bit, only to feel someone tugging softly at his sleeve.
“Sho-chan?”
His head immediately shot back at the younger man’s face when Sho heard Aiba’s voice.
“Mhm?”
“Can I talk to you for a second?”
The newscaster nodded and followed Aiba who headed to the bathroom next to the dressing room, a somewhat painful and indescribable expression on his face now. When the door closed behind them, Aiba immediately took one dangerously close step near Sho so that their bodies were separated by only a few millimeters.
Oh god I hope he can’t hear my heartbeat, Sho thought and started to tremble lightly. Or my gulping. Or my thoughts. Oh god, he smells really good today. A big smile crept up his face and Sho felt like his head was being occupied by a thick fog that didn’t let him think clearly anymore.
“Sho…” Aiba tugged at the collar of the older man’s shirt this time and slowly raised his face to look at Sho who shook his head to regain consciousness from his lovey-dovey-thoughts. The even more painful looking expression on Aiba’s face and the quiet shaky voice made Sho realize that something must have been wrong. He saw that kind of gaze only one time before - back then when they were still at the beginning of their career with Arashi…
“My chest hurts… badly.”
As fast as those words were spoken out, Aiba’s breathing became louder and irregular which led him to cling desperately onto Sho’s shirt. It took approximately two seconds for Sho to fully understand what was happening and what he had to do now. Automatically he sat Aiba carefully on the floor of the bathroom, opened the door and called the people walking outside in the hallway for help.
Everything happened in an instant - people taking out their mobile phones, calling an ambulance, Jun, Nino and Ohno running immediately to their friends after one of the staff members told them that something happened to Aiba. For Sho everything seemed to go by in slow motion and all he could hear was the young man who buried his face in the crook of the newscaster’s neck now, sobbing because of the stabbing pain in his chest. When a paramedic team was suddenly standing in front of them, Sho saw that they were moving their mouths, asking him probably something, but he just couldn’t hear them. The cries of his loved one were completely occupying his head and breaking his heart at the same time.

“Sho-kun… ne, Sho-kun” A pair of worried looking eyes were staring at Sho who sat in one of the uncomfortable chairs in the hallway of the local hospital. Jun’s palm rested on his friend’s shoulder, shaking him lightly to wake him up. Confused because of his drowsiness Sho looked around, the bright lights of the hospital making it difficult for him to understand where he was and what was going on around him. His eyes caught Ohno and Nino, standing in front of him; Ohno softly caressing Nino’s back who hid his sad face behind his hair. And that’s when the cries and the pleading once again filled Sho’s head.
Aiba’s cries.
“Where’s Aiba?” he asked immediately.
The last thing Sho remembered before he fell asleep was that the paramedic team brought the younger man into an emergency room, asking Sho to wait in the hallway for the time being. He remembered walking the corridor up and down, over and over again until one of the nurses stopped him and tried to calm him down with a cup of not-so-tasty hospital coffee that Sho drank out of necessity to keep awake and wait for some information.
“Fuck, where’s Aiba?” Sho straightened up when he noticed that he did feel asleep in the end, wanting to slap himself for not withstanding the exhaustion.
“Relax… he’s okay now.” The sudden grip on his shoulder kept the newscaster from going any further and he turned to see Jun who pointed to a nearby room.
“We’re actually not allowed to go in there but… since no one is around… could you check on him first?” At Ohno’s suggestion and the following small smile, Sho just nodded and exhaled deeply before he headed towards the room, opening the door as quiet as he could.
The first thing he saw were dozen of machines. And lots of cables attached to them. The beeping of those equipments was awfully depressing, making Sho realize once again in which kind of situation he was right now. The lean figure of his secret crush was safely tucked in the yellowish hospital blanket, some strange medical gadgets around Aiba’s arms and in his veins. Slowly Sho approached the bed and looked down at the younger man who seemed to be sleeping peacefully, the previous painful expression not present anymore. The normally rosy colour in his cheeks vanished, an unusual paleness spreading not only over his face, but also on his exposed neck and arms. Sighing Sho crouched down next to the bed and placed his chin on the soft mattress while his fingers glided over the back of Aiba’s right hand.
Minutes passed, Sho not changing his position and his eyes getting heavier and heavier the longer he crouched beside the bed. When he almost drowsed off again, Sho suddenly felt how Aiba’s fingers tickled against his skin and intertwined with his own one’s.
“Sho-chan?”
All the exhaustion and tiredness was blown away after Sho heard the quiet, hoarse voice of his band mate whose eyes were opened only a bit. Immediately he stood up and leaned over his friend to look directly into his face.
“How are you feeling? Does it hurt somewhere? Do you want to drink some water? Are you allowed to drink something?… oh god, I have absolutely no idea…”
Aiba just smirked lightly at Sho’s panicking reaction and shook his head.
“I’m tired… and my chest still hurts a bit. But mostly I am tired.”
The newscaster just stared down at the tall man, the smile on his face giving Sho a feeling of security and strength, a smile that said ‘Everything will be okay’. But the smile faded quickly when Aiba felt a sudden wetness on his face, tears dropping from above down on his cheek.
“Sho…” he tried to reach the older man’s face with his left hand “Please don’t cry. It’s okay… really.”
Sho tried to hide his watery eyes and the escaping tears in Aiba’s shoulder that his face was now placed on. Carefully he sniffled against the exposed skin between the younger man’s nape and shoulder while his left hand found Aiba’s hair and caressed it gently.
It’s not okay, idiot. How can it be okay when you are lying here… not even able to raise your hand, because your body is just too weak to…
“Just sleep a bit, okay?” Sho gulped hard and raised his head again to show Aiba one of his brightest smiles, hoping to ease the pain at least a bit “I’ll stay here.”
Happily the taller man just nodded and closed his eyes again before he drifted off to sleep, the exhaustion clearly written on his face. Sho took a small stool that was standing in the corner of the room and placed it next to the bed so that he was able to watch over his beloved one. The newscaster had to laugh when he heard how Aiba mumbled in his sleep, a quiet snoring joining from time to time.
And as much as Sho wanted to keep his eyes open, he fell asleep again… missing the only audible words that escaped Aiba’s mouth. Those words that he wanted to hear the most in the world.
“I love you, Sho-chan.”

Comment: New One Shot! Yay yay yay! With probably the most uncreative title ever. I had really NO idea how to call this one shot ._. But besides that… Aiba was hospitalized in 2011 again since he felt some pain in his chest during an AnShi episode, right?… I tried to calculate which episode it was… I think it was this one with Kaga-san, but I am not 100% sure. ^^
