back from Sudbury

Ok, just got back from Sudbury this afternoon!!!
It's been crazy busy since I last wrote, school basically took over EVERYTHING and now it's finally about a week I get to do what I want before school starts!

As soon as school ended I started Christmas shopping, which was successful but left me BROKE :P I quit at Swiss Chalet so that was most of the rest of my money hehe. Anyways, Christmas was great, laid back and not too crazy. Saw family, which was nice. I got an iMAC G5!!! *death* Man, it's awesome, and goes in my room! I need to do some massive cleaning up, which I tried on boxing day but only really got into my closet to do some rearranging and clean-out. The rest of my room needs to be revamped also but I suspect that will take the rest of this week. I got an amazing Moroccan-style hanging lamp which will be sooo cool once it's up! I got a cute little lotus candle holder from Danielle (also awesome), the MOST AwESOMEST OF AWESOMEST shirts from Eric ("Let's Celebrate Colour!", as well as a cookbook, Shogun--a book, very cool, and paper!). So yeah, uber-excited about room decorations. Hope to get some blinds up still, at some point. My mom got me some cool beads on ribbon to use as edging and stuff. I got an easel which also needs to go in my room. Sooo much to reorganize! Even though my room is a fair size, once you put all the regular bedroom stuff in with a computer desk, drawing desk, paper storer and more storage, and easel and storage for the rest of my art supplies, it doesn't seem quiiite so big anymore.

I aaalso need to do some artwork for a book project at school. We're trying to raise money for the 3rd year Illustration show, which is veeery costly, so we're making a celebrity caricature book and have made some aaaawesome buttons (*AWESOME!!!*). There's lots more in the works, but this is sorta the only time I get to do some illustrations for it. I'm not really into celebrity caricature illustrations, but I figure I'll do Amelie or somebody who I think is cool, and hope it's good enough to get chosen for the book. We REALLY need to be thinking about having GREAT portfolio stuff for our job placements :( So if that's what sells.... argh, I don't know anymore. I want to do something I like, but in the end it's sort of like every other business. You need to do stuff people want. I still need to sort that out.

While at Eric's parents' house in Sudbury, I read up on knitting stuff, looked at patterns, and learned the process of felting, which I'm now dying to try. It seems to require a lot of testing to make things the proper size, but now that I can knit (I managed to make a hat and am now able to do scarfs and different simple patterns), I know that I could make customized felt bags, hats, and hopefully mittens and other things once I learn how! I really do love textiles, so it's cool that Eric's mom has soooo much stuff (patterns, books on making one's own yarn, everything to do with knitting, weaving, spinning wool etc). I'm kinda becoming lax on the whole vegan-wool-silk thing.... I don't know. A lot of people raising sheep that I've been reading about seem to generally love what they're doing. I think it would be great to know that all of the sheep are being treated "properly", but I'm not sure I know entirely what that entails anymore. I think "animal liberation" is a bit stupid these days. Also, wool seems more natural to me these days than acrylic (well... yeah.). Acrylics and synthetic yarn may not need sheep to make, but they're basically plastics which aren't that great for the environment. I've been vegan for 6 years as of New Years, and I reevaluating and questioning seems like a good idea to me. I think I will still remain vegan, but some things like wool, silk, honey just don't seem as important as they used to. Better than plastic.... even though acrylic is so niiice and sooooft :P

Great time in Sudbury, happy to be sitting in front of my new computer, lookin' forward to a week of reading, hopefully lazing AND being productive.... and also to try my new cookie press... can't wait!
