Speaking of "The Elements of Style"-type stuff

I get to be on AIM all the time at work because we use it to communicate with coworkers. This is the gist of an exchange that took place this morning between myself and an editor in the Chicago office, after I'd read a release to note the corrections it needed, and she was the editor formatting the release and making those corrections:

Me: I just ( Read more... )

Heh... so, does this mean you've edited out all the things that you wouldn't want someone who doesn't really know you, and doesn't know anyone you know, to see?

Why yes, yes it does.

And you shouldn't assume we don't know the same people. SCANDAL!

I am keeping this email forever and ever, as I just find it that funny.

Schweeeeeeet! This way, whenever anyone asks me about what legacy I'll have left behind in this world once I've passed on, I can refer them to that email -- forever and ever.

Glad you enjoyed it. Be careful, though; telling me things like that only perpetuate the notion in my head that I'm occasionally capable of being witty.

Please, I find you HIGHLY amusing.

Also, note to you, next time we are on IM, tell me where you are from in Michigan. I am also from there, and can sing Hail to the Victors as well.

Yes, amusing and self-deprecating!

Hey! Wait a sec... I'm amusing? You're saying I'm a clown? Am I here to amuse you? Great, I'm funny, I'm a funny guy -- funny how? How am I funny?

(Was that too much?)

I'd tell you about my life in Michigan now, but you said to tell you over IM, so I'll wait. :-) Of course, I didn't realize until that I haven't actually added Chicago people to my buddy list, I just see you guys in the chat room. So I didn't have your AIM name all day here at home. EPLeigh, I believe, but I don't recall the numbers. And I could've asked someone, I suppose, but... we've already established I'm lazy like that. ;-)

This also made me realize that I may have reached a point where those who read my LJ might not already know me well enough to not need a bio on me. Not that I'm actually going to write one now, but it was just a thought.

You are a clown, and you are here to amuse me.

I don't use AIM at home, sorry. And there are no numbers associated with my name.

You were at the Cantina when Robert left weren't you? And you were in the pictures? Funny story about that. I asked Jerry if that was you and he told me no, that it was some guy who was hitting on Tara all night and just jumped into the pictures. He kept it up too.

My point is, no, we've never met (though we talk nearly every day) but I at least know what you look like. So there.
