I've been posting these gesture book sketches here on LJ since May 2006, 5 years and a lot of drawing (and scanning) later and after this book, I'm going to change.
During these years I've imposed an "Observation Only" rule on the books I post here and now that I'm leaving school it's about time I did more. My sketchbooks need more life than just the stuff in front of me, they need ideas, style, experimentation, excitement! I'm going to change my style of practicing and I'm going to change the way it's documented. How? I have no idea!
I've always wanted a sketchbook online where I have a giant long canvas and can grab images and just scrawl over them all I want, just a stream of thought of photography and text and drawings; something like playing with a huge roll of internet paper. Dealing with these text boxes is a bit of a hassel. However that technology isn't around yet, well, not in any practical user friendly way. Until then, cutting the time between actually drawing stuff and posting about it will do.
Currently posting from sketchbook to LJ is a bit of a process and I'm looking to see if something can shorten this. Smart phones and their 8mp+ cameras might be useful for this. I'm not keen on LJ's smartphone features (or its advertising) though so it's looking like I might transfer posting to better places if that's the option. Maybe Tumblr or Blogger. Come graduation in July, things here will change - I'm not looking to do another gesturebook and whatever form the next online sketchbook might take, it won't use this LJ account.
