I do not care that, in a recent Wisconsin speech, Barack Obama used phrases similar to those of his close friend Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick. I do not care that they both hired adviser David Axelrod. I do not think that either man was propped up by a spin machine. I do not think the use of the word plagiarism is warranted in the slightest.
I have mentors and friends at work from whom I have learned many things. I am sure that I would pay such people to advise me if I wanted to run a campaign that needed to reach over three hundred million people.
While we are on the subject of things LaGizma does not care about, allow me to add John McCain's friendship with lobbyist Vicki Iseman. I do not believe that McCain has ever conducted himself with even the slightest bit of impropriety. What I do know is that the
Office of Government Ethics mandates that all federal employees avoid even the "
appearance of impropriety," and as such one is counseled to avoid acts that are 100% on the up-and-up but could be interpreted by others or the public as inappropriate.
I do find it interesting that a man who is truly ethical, and who believes himself to be ethical, faces a quandry with regards to the "appearance of impropriety." I believe that McCain probably was counseled to avoid the appearance of impropriety with Iseman, but that his advisers were talking about APPEARANCE and not ACTUAL FACT.
