Ophelia has been missing for a week. I didn't post earlier because it was too hard, and because I'm better at telling funny stories than sad ones. I was waiting to write the happy story of finding our silly Ophelia Cat. The happy story hasn't happened yet.
She went missing late Monday night or early Tuesday. Roommate Mike may or may not have seen her Tuesday morning. Jeff and I know the last time we saw her was just before midnight Monday night.
I've canvassed the neighborhood with flyers, knocking on doors and introducing myself to people. Jeff and Mike have searched drains, bushes, abandoned houses, and more. Jeff has conducted an aggressive search of the neighboring yards. I've made gigantic fluorescent posters, following all the guidelines for weather sustainability and readability from cars. My garage door is covered with a ginormous picture of Ophelia.
And then I hired bloodhounds.
Yes, you read that right. I hired Pet Detective Landa, who brought out her bloodhound Ellie Mae and her terrier Apache to search. The dogs used Ophelia's brush and favorite feather toy to get her scent. We took each dog out independently, and both followed a scent that went to the field behind our house, past some abandoned buildings, and then across the most major road in Rosamond. We tracked her to two trailer parks about 1500 ft. away from our house, and that's my new target search area.
The dogs did their work Friday morning. It was well worth the $ spent, even though we didn't have a "walk-up find" of Ophelia. I'll elaborate more about the process in a follow-up post.
For now, we are continuing to develop witnesses and search the target area. We used to take Agrippina and Ophelia outside at night and light our tiki torches and play with them. Npw, Agrippina goes outside and calls endlessly for his sister/girlfriend.
I've been lighting my tiki torches every night for Ophelia.
Will you light a candle for her tonight, too?
ophelia,
life
