[Background] Gauche Suede, a Letter Bee (government workers assigned to deliver letters and packages throughout the world known as Amberground) finds Lag Seeing in the town of Coza Bel, a recently destroyed town in the poorest of Amberground's three districts, Yodaka District. Lag is marked with a delivery form stating that Lag is a fragile seven year-old albisian (albino) male, making Lag the "letter" that is to be delivered. Lag panics, as he had witnessed his mother's kidnapping as the town was destroyed. Lag learns from Gauche that his mother was taken to the "Light", referring to the Akatsuki District. (note: Akatsuki is at the very center of Amberground, closest to the man-made sun that lights the forever-dark world, and the home of the upper-class, including the government.) Lag is also taught about the work of a Letter Bee:

"Excluding the capital, journeying in this country from town to town, unflagging even in the face of danger, delivering the important letters of the citizens, that is the job of the Letter Bees!"
- Gauche Suede

Lag, at first, did not like the Letter Bees due to Gauche's disinterest in knowing anything about Lag (as postmen should not read contents of the letters they deliver), and treating him as a letter rather than a person. Gauche tells Lag that the person who wanted him delivered was Anna Seeing, Lag's Mother, and that he was to be delivered to an aunt in the town of Cambel Litus, still in the Yodaka District. To get to Cambel Litus, Lag and Gauche must cross through the Blue Pumpkin Mountain Range, an area where gaichuu, huge insects that are attracted to the "Heart" from people and letters, are found. While crossing the mountains and coming across a gaichuu, Lag learns of special guns called shindanjuu, which are used to combat gaichuu by firing bullets containing fragments of the user's "heart" (Note: "Heart" is not meant as the actual organ, but feelings, memories, passions, the like.). Shindanjuu can fire "Heart" by using "Spirit Amber", a special stone of resin containing spiritually energized insects. Lag then touches Gauche's gun. Suddenly, somehow, there is a reaction between Lag and the shindanjuu, causing the gun to supercharge and pieces of Lag's "Heart" to be shown. The memories include the kidnapping of his mother, who raised Lag on her own, by strange men.

As their journey comes close to an end, Lag becomes desperate to save his mother and runs away from Gauche with his gun to try and go to Akatsuki, ignoring what Gauche told him: you cannot cross districts without a special permit. Predicatably, a large gaichuu attacks, and Gauche comes to save the day. However, this gaichuu is strong, and Gauche asks for Lag's help in defeating it. It is then that Gauche learns that Lag's left eye (always covered by his bangs) is actually a large piece of Spirit Amber, explaining why Lag was able to charge Gauche's gun. The gaichuu is defeated, and through memories from Lag's "Heart," Gauche learns that Lag's mother gave him the eye of Spirit Amber as a protection charm. After using too much "Heart," Gauche collapses, and Lag somehow carries him the remaining ways to Cambel Litus. After a successful delivery, Gauche leaves town, but not before admitting that he saw Lag as a friend and not just a letter. Lag is extremely moved by this, and decides that he will become a Letter Bee one day, just like Gauche. He dreams of becoming the Head Bee, the highest position a Bee can have, allowing him to work in Akatsuki and find clues to his mother's whereabouts.

Five years later, twelve year-old Lag Seeing makes it to Yuusari (the middle-class district of Amberground) and becomes a Letter Bee at the Beehive, Letter Bee headquarters. Since becoming a Bee, he is determined to work hard to become the Head Bee. He also learns that Gauche, his idol, has lost his "Heart", losing his memories and joining "Reverse," an anti-government group that causes trouble for Letter Bees. However, with the power of his "Heart," lag is able to recover a small amount of Gauche's "Heart," putting Gauche in a coma. Now that he has saved his good friend, Lag continues to deliver letters from town to town in hopes of becoming the Head Bee and seeing his friend, Gauche Suede, awaken.

[Personality] Lag Seeing is extremely passionate. In fact, he is so determined in his feelings, many chapters of the story refer to Lag as "the crybaby boy." Indeed, Lag is a huge crybaby, crying at any scene that moves him, from the memories of a person to music. (His name, "Lag," is actually derived from the Spanish word "Lagrima", meaning "tears.") He has a huge and pure heart, proven by how he tries to help whoever he can even if it is not in his best interests. For example, while heading to Yuusari to take the exam that would make him a Letter Bee, he comes across a girl who, similarly to himself, is marked as a letter. Unlike Lag, however, her postage stamp is incomplete. Even though Lag is not officially a Bee, and though he must hurry or be late for the Bee exam, he goes out of his way to try and deliver the girl. His passion is at its highest, though, when delivering letters. Lag considers it extremely important for letters to be delivered because all letters contain the "Heart" of the person who wrote it, and it is important for that "Heart" to reach its destination. He is also passionate about Gauche, who is his first friend and idol, so much so that he promises to find and save him when others (including Gauche's very own sister) presume him dead. The best part? Lag is so driven, that he actually succeeds (he even goes to the extreme of crossdressing to enter an all-women's abbey to find clues of Gauche's whereabouts), gaining much respect from all of his new friends at the Beehive.

Another obvious trait in Lag's personality is his politeness. Despite being a kid and having his childish moments, Lag is extremely polite to people, especially those he doesn't know. His politeness is somewhat quirky; it is usually strange for people who have grown up in poverty to have such manners. Also, Lag is even polite in inappropriate situations. For example, in the story, Lag's messenger bag is stolen, including his temporary crossing permit. Upon finding the thief, Lag asks if the person could "please" give him back his bag. When the thief gives him the bag, complaining that there is nothing worth taking, Lag responds, "Thank you very much!" Lag's politeness also comes through his innocence. When he first meets Niche, a girl who eventually becomes his "Dingo" (a Letter Bee's partner), she doesn't wear any underwear, and Lag begs her to wear pants, eventually making her wear a pair of his own boxers. He also meets Niche's sister at one point, who does not wear clothes, and he begs for her to put on clothes as well.

Lag is stubborn and determined, a trait that is probably magnified due to the fact that he is still a child. He will go to extreme lengths to make sure that he achieves the goals he sets for himself, whether it is making a delivery or simply doing what he feels is right (which is usually right, him being the protagonist and all. He does have childish moments: staying up all night when he has to work in the morning, making faces when eating disgusting food (aka, Sylvette's soup), wanting in everyone's business, and even teasing Gauche (back when Gauche was delivering Lag to Cambel Litus). However, his childish determination tends to lead to his successes (especially when it came to finding Gauche Suede and returning him to the Beehive), making this his strength, while I believe his passion is more of a weakness, making him softer than what he should possibly be, and also driving him to use too much "Heart" often, making him sick and weak.

[Specialties/Abilities] Akabari, or "Red Needle" - Lag's signature (and only) attack: It can be fired with a gun on through his hand. Lag uses Akabari to defeat gaichuu. Also, Lag's "Heart" has a special ability to sense the "Heart" of others. Therefor, Lag can use Akabari on objects to reveal the "Heart" surrounding that object. For example, Lag once used Akabari on a churchbell, allowing himself and others around him to see the memories of the person who had bought the bell and had it delivered to the church.

Akabari is a relatively harmless but extremely infomodding ability (shoot person = seeing person's personal memories). Therefore, Akabari will NOT work in Somarium.

[Affection] He's a child, so innocent things; hugs, maybe a kiss on the forehead or cheek, holding hands, etc.
[Fighting] He can't fight. :(
