Let's Play: Final Fantasy VII - Chapter 5

Mar 28, 2011 10:50

Previously: An entire quest was devoted to make a girl out of Papaya. It was glorious. And somehow, it worked. Fresita and Miss Papaya are allowed into the Don's mansion and despite all the claims that the Don’s got tight security, are quickly left alone to wander.

Chapter 5 - Big Damn Heroes We Ain’t

The search doesn't last long. There's only one door we can go through at the moment and it leads to a... basement place.

OMG AN ETHER! And Kiwi's here too.

Kiwi is not sure what to make of the good looking young lady who just walked in.

Fresita has to come in to explain things. She doesn't even flinch at the decor.

The girls then both claim not to like Papaya “that way” and that they’re just friends and all that.

Screencaps don’t do justice to Kiwi’s surprise jump.

You mean you couldn’t burst in? Or sneak in?

…. Right. Please let’s change the subject.

As they talk, you can see Fresita “not listening”

“Turns out, it was just that guy from the corner store that wears a tinfoil hat and speaks only in what he thinks is haiku. But there was another weird guy standing right behind him.

Weird Guy had been sent by Don Corneo and was looking for info on AVALANCHE. Kiwi decided to see why.

You overheard?! Shocking!!! Time for another of Fresita’s brilliant plans.

“I didn’t become the Crime Boss of Sector 5 by running away from danger.”

Fine! But I’m not leaving without the Ether.

And now it’s time for the girls to go meet the Don. Who will he choose?

*Drumroll…………………………………………………………………..*

"Healthy looking"? Seriously?

Don tells his mooks they can have the other two. I almost feel bad for those guys. Almost. Those girls are gonna wipe the floor with them as soon as they’re alone.

Sweet Zombie Jesus, this cannot get any more disturbing…

… I stand corrected.

From here on you run around the room while don watches you. You can either give in into his advances - the closest they come to anything happen is a kiss that gets interrupted by the girls - or Papaya can start saying he has a boyfriend called Yesaidu.

“Are you wearing lingerie?!?!”

It’s time to get information by threatening to do stuff to the Don's "Little Don".

You thought I was making that up?

Don tells us had orders from Heidegger, Shinra’s Head of Peace Preservation. Apparently the Shinra has some issues with AVALANCHE blowing up reactors or something.

So... they're going to infiltrate AVALANCHE by crushing the entire Sector 7? I don't think that word means what they think it means.

No time to waste! We better get out of here before the Don pulls a trick on us and...

Too late.

Meanwhile, back at Shinra…

Meet Reeve. I like him. He's reasonable, actually cares and his outfit doesn't seem to have an insane amount of zippers and belts.

That means that he's of course powerless to stop Heidegger and President Shinra's plan to drop the plate.

Apparently Midgar has a Mayor. Surprise! Also, I’m not sure is Heidegger is talking to us or something.

Meanwhile, at the Midgar sewers…

It’s Potion first, Girls second for Papaya.

Of course, just as she finishes saying that, we hear a growl.

Aaaand the Boss Music starts…

Oh crap. This is Aps. He's tough and has an attack that knows a few hp out of you, but luckily it also hits him and between the three of us, he is toast very soon.

Fresita is here using her Limit Break to heal us. It’s awesome.

Then is a short trip around the sewers, we fight a few turtles (sadly, no TMNT around), find a Steal Materia and make our way back to the surface.

The Train Graveyard. Believe it or not I didn't get lost here. Yay me!

And a moment to check these guys out. The Ghosts are a pain to fight because every time you do something to them, they vanish and cannot attack them until they’re back in. We use our brand new Steal Materia to get Ghost Hands from them.

We also fight this guy, Eligor. We steal a striking Staff for Fresita.

You cannot see it here, but Papaya has jumped on the train and is using it to move other trains around in order to make a path. They teach you a lot of stuff on SOLDIER it seems…

“And our mere presence should keep it standing, right?”

You can Yesaidu, Jesse and Wedge. Then Wedge is hit and starts falling…

Of course I remember! The one thing I never knew what your exact job description. Any chance you could tell me now?

Wedge, don't die yet! Please tell me what exactly your job description w... Aw, too late.

Papaya and Kiwi are going up.

"Make sure he doesn't get... deader"

"I forgot to take garbage out and do inventory today. Could you do that before the plate falls?"

"Oh! And can you put some laundry on the washing machine while you're at it?"

We can talk to the people before heading up. The old man will sell us stuff, the officer refuses to go out of duty and the girl with him thinks that’s sexy. There’s also another officer ahead who’s angry because this was his last day on the job and the guy from a few chapters ago who showed us the pillar for the first time.

Biggs is also a goner.

Oh, Jesse, we... actually you have a point.

On the top, we equip Yesaidu and meet Reno, aka the Turk from the Church.

“Reno and the Turks” is also the name of his rock band.

Besides using a cattle prod thingie, he puts yellow triangles on top of my team, which we have to beat up in order to set them free. If he traps all the guys, it's game over. Yeah, I got that once.

During this fight I managed to get some really cool screencaps of Kiwi’s Limit Break -(she’s already on her second one!) so here they are.

Both badass and adorable.

“Wait! What time is it? I’m gonna be late for my band rehearsal!

See ya guise! Please buy my album.

And like every rockstar out there, he proceeds to leave by jumping off the pillar.

Then we meet another Turk, Tseng. I'm not too crazy about him, considering the fact that he's taken Fresita with him and proceeds to slap her when she talks to Kiwi. Fresita doesn’throw him off the helicopter because she’s already filled out her kill quota for today.

There is no time to slap him back either, as the plate is falling and there’s nothing we can do to stop it.

Yeah, I have Papaya run around like a headless chicken for a bit, while Yesaidu does something similar and Kiwi just looks up.

What would Fresita do?

Yeah, jumping on a cable and Tarzaning our way out sounds like a plan.

Sadly, that is not an option for the other people of Sector 7. The plate falls and everybody dies.

%#& you, President Shinra. I hope you get stabbed by something long and pointy soon.

This was both longer and more depressing than I thought it would be.

Next update will bring you Fresita’s backstory, a visit to our favorite Market and our heroes climbing a cable. I swear it’s better than it sounds.
