WARNING: The following entry contains highly conservative views. If you consider yourself a liberal in any sense, you may want to stop reading now. And no, I don't know how to make lj cuts.
I have a new favorite book. And a new political spiritual leader. Ann Coulter's latest masterpiece How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must) is the most refreshing piece of literature I have read in over a year. Thank God I'm a Republican because Ann takes no prisoners when it comes to the Democratic party. In the past few weeks, everyone has posted journal entries that either reflect on their first semester of college or their favorite moments of 2004 or their New Year's resolutions. I guess I'm a little late. I'm here to put a new spin on the "year-end-reflective-journal entry" fad. 2004 was a big year for me, but it was a bigger year for conservatives everywhere.
Living as a conservative in downtown Atlanta is no easy task. Over the past six months, I have been forced to listen to my liberal friends (and other liberal acqauitances) bitch and moan about the Bush administration and how the United States is going to hell--and I'm sick of it. I have remained relatively silent about my political views, especially on my journal. Politics and religion are two subjects that people should carefully study before ever speaking about them. In Atlanta, and in the livejournal community alike, it's best not to speak of these historically conrtoversial topics at all. Sorry liberals. Just when you thought I was starting to move left, the time has come for a little bitching and moaning of my own. What are my New Year Resolutions? Become more conservative and read more Ann Coulter books...oh, and watch the O'Reilly Factor more often.
First of all, for the record, I am ecstatic that President George W. Bush will be leading our country for the next four years. It feels good to know that in the very first vote of my life I voted for a winner. Kerry had me going for awhile there. I honestly thought he was going to pull it off. Oh wait...that wasn't Kerry who had me convinced...it was the media! The increasingly liberal media in this country makes a little bit queezy. And to think, I actually took to reading the New York Times mid semester. I shudder to think about all of the lies I read every day for two months. Oh well, it's a good laugh in heindsight. The good news is, the media still hates Bush, which means I love him even more.
Ok, ok, so this entry has turned into one media/liberal bashing mess. I'll try to calm down and give the dems some credit. I agree with you--gays should be allowed to get married. And I saw your favorite movie, Farenheight 9/11. I saw it with five staunch liberals, in fact. But I still can't stand Michael Moore--or the movie for that matter.
I know what you're thinking. "Jayne, where is all of this hatred for democrats coming from?" I guess what kills about liberals these days, is that they just hate the United States. I could list several examples of why I'm sick of liberalism in our country, but I'll just cite the most recent one. So the U.S. isn't generous, huh? We're not giving enough money to tsunami victims in Asia? What the hell were we thinking when we sent Colin Powell and JEB BUSH, of all people, to assess the damage in Asia? What are you people going to say next? France is the World's kindest nation? Give me a break...
The United States gave more money to developing nations last year than any other country in the world. For those of you who would like a statistic, that's $2 billion in government aid alone, not to mention private donations. That's also %35 of all the money in the world that was contributed to developing nations last year. Interesting mumber considering the U.S. is home to a mere %5 of the world's population. The U.S. has pledged $300 million in government aid for Asia SO FAR. And with all of the donations that have been pouring into private organizations over the past couple of weeks, our contributions will certainly surpass the billion dollar mark. Certainly seems like the U.S. is generous to me. Maybe I'm missing something. I wonder what Michael Moore would tell me. Maybe I should send these statistics into the Times as an editorial. Nah. They'd never print it anyway.
I applaud W for sending his brother and Colin Powell to Asia earlier this week. I want to know exactly where our government spending is going to go. It's not that I don't trust the political infrastructure of the nations hit by the tsunamis...oh wait...I don't. I'm all for getting those nations up and running again, and in order to do that we need to make sure that our money is going to the right people. And as for Jeb--who better than a man who just dealt with the devestation of four hurricanes in his state to deal with natural disaster relief in Asia? An estimated $13 billion in insurance settlements is going to Asia. Sure seems like a figure that could be handled by a man who dealt with $20 billion of insurance money in the state of Florida. Right on, Bush Brothers!
I'm getting a little too steamed up for my own good now. I'm just sick of everyone bashing the United States. Move to France if you hate it so much. I guess their $137,000 donation seems more generous to you. And how can we forget about that inexpensive healthcare?
I don't really know how to wrap up this entry, so I'll just leave you with some quotes from the fly leaf of How to Talk to a Liberal. Ann Coulter...you're my hero. Until next time, my friends. God Bless America!
THE ESSENCE OF BEING A LIBERAL: "The absolute conviction that there is one set of rules for you, and another, completely different set of rules for everyone else."
JOHN KERRY: "A reporter asked Kerry 'Are you for or against gay marriage?' As usual his anser was, 'Yes.'"
HER 9/11 COMMENTS: "I am often asked if I still think we should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity. The answer is: Now more than ever!"
THE STATE OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY: "Teddy Kennedy crawls out of Boston Harbor with a quart of scotch in one pocket and a pair of pantyhose in the other and Democrats hail him as their party's spiritual leader."
HER PHILOSOPHY FOR ARGUING WITH A LIBERAL: "Tough love, except I don't love them. My 'tough love' approach is much like the Democrats' 'middle-class tax cuts'--everything but the last word."
THE TREASON LOBBY: "Want to make liberals angry? Defend the United States."
