The fluorescent light strikes her.
She walks.
Everything was white.
Clean.
Bright.
She walks, the sound of her heels echoing down the familiar hallway. The clacking of her heels bounces off the empty hallway, ringing repeatedly in her ears. It created a disoriented effect, making her nauseous. Everything is so bright and white; its sickening. She tasted something bitter. She continued to walk and turned at the bent, pausing a little as she spots a few silhouettes at the end of the hallway. Her steps became heavier, her mind unconsciously counting.
There was only 8 of them there, including a man in white coat.
And the particular one she wants to see is not there.
No, no i can't be.
Somewhere inside her head was screaming. Her brain was in a frenzy. The sterile smell that lingered in this enclosed area started to suffocate her. Her head felt heavy, her vision doubled.
Please stop! Turn around. now!
She paused again as the silhouettes get bigger, her eyes scanning for the familiar brunette. Her brain screamed frantically. Her rebellious body had a mind of its own, willing her to move forward again. Her legs carried her, forcing her towards the crowd.
She stumbled slightly when a warm body ran right into hers. She stood emotionless, her hands lying limped at the side of her body. The taller girl against her shake uncontrollably, muffled cries escaping her pale lips. The red-head buried her head at the crook of her shoulders, the former shivering slightly as wetness seep through the cloth.
The man looked up when he noticed her. A sympathetic smile found its way to his lips. She cringed a little at the his effort, feeling disgusted. The smile faded as he looked at the paper in his hand. She saw his mouth move but she could not hear anything. Her ears ring, her senses all wrong. She stood frozen, a few movements at the corner of her eye. Then she saw them.
Tear-stained faces of the members.
She shut her eyes, inhaling deeply as a sharp pain stabbed her chest.
Their eyes.
It was a terrifying sight.
She had never seen such emptiness in their eyes before. She felt the strength left her legs but the body against her strongly held her to stand. Her eyes fluttered open to look at the man again, his face plastered with the same sympathetic smile. She doesn't want his sympathy. She doesn't need his pity. All she want is to get the hell out of this place. To just leave and walk away. Leave before its all too late.
"Miss Jessica Jung Sooyeon?"
She nodded, her movement stiff. He look at her blankly, then back to the paper again.
"Come with me."
He turn to open the door before him. The girls in her arms tighten her grip and Jessica could felt the tension.
"Yoona-ah, Yoona."
Jessica felt the immediate lack of comfort and warmth as the body was pulled away. The sudden coldness hit her. She is left to face all of this. Alone.
No, no, I want to leave now.
"Miss Jung?"
Jessica snap out of her trance back the attention. She followed him, feeling eyes on her. She angled her head slightly and saw the members looking intensely at her. The leader look at her and give her a nod, a small smile on her lips. Jessica nod back and walked into the room the man had disappeared into.
Stop Jessi, its not too late to leave now. Stop! Stop!
She stepped into the room, the door closed with a click. The light shone brightly on a table in the middle of the room. A pure white cloth covered a limp figure on the table. Jessica's heart clenched at the sight.
Jessica please, please! Go! Leave right now!
She felt light-headed, her chest excruciatingly painful. The air is stale and there is a distinct smell of blood. Of death. Of her.
Jessica felt sick.
"I'm sorry. We have done our best."
The man reached out and pull the cloth slowly. Black wavy hair spill out from under the sheets. Black wavy long hair stained in blood. A lump form in the blonde's throat, choking her. She breathed, her vision blurred and her head thumped wildly.
"I'm sorry."
He pulled away more of the cloth. Jessica saw a hand fall limply from the metal table. Her knees weaken as she saw a glisten of a band on the finger. That ring.
I don't want to see this. Stop please!
He lifted up the cloth.
NO I DON'T WANT TO SEE THIS! NO PLEASE NO NO NO!
Jessica stopped breathing. She felt her whole world crumbling.
She is just asleep Jessica. This is just a sick joke. No its-
The man pulled away the rest of the cloth completely, eyes downcast. The truth, the reality is completely revealed.
The brunette she was looking for lies on the cold metal table.
Her lifeless eyes stares at the ceiling.
The soul behind those eyes permanently checked out.
The silence was deafening.
The usual lively girl was too quiet.
"Stop sleeping. Wake up. Lets go hom-"
Jessica chokes, her voice shaking. She walk forward and grabbed hold of the hand that lied limply at the side.
Cold. Clammy. Gray.
Jessica finally let the truth hit her. She let the tears fall, her strong exterior broke down.
"No! Tiffany please, wake up!"
*
Jessica's eyes shot open. She blink several times to adjust to the darkness in the room. She inhaled a few times, her eyes inspecting the surroundings. She is resting on a bed. Judging from the decoration, she is in the dorm room. Dark. Quiet. Peaceful. Comfortable with one hand slung over her head. Nothing out of the extraordinary. She sighed, turning over to look at the bedside clock.
It was just a nightmare.
1.08am
Too early to be awake. She pulled the covers over herself again, her hand slung over her head. She closed her eyes, her breathing evening out. Her heart still thump from the dream. It was so real. So real.
Just a nightmare.
Jessica felt the bed towards her left sagged. Frowning, she open her eyes and found herself being blinded by a bright light. It can't be. It seems like she haven't sleep a wink. She watch the curtain move from the breeze, the light pouring into the room. Its bright. Its so bright.
Just like that nightmare.
A foreign hand found its way to her arm, fingers drawing nonsensical patterns and playfully dancing around.
Jessica froze.
She dropped the hand over her head, turning over to the body next to her. In her mind, she knew who it was. She recognized the familiar faint scent of strawberries, the familiar sound of the contented sigh, the familiar warmth that pressed against her. She knew, but she had to be sure. The latter beside her smile, her eyes arched into crescents.
"Good morning Jessi."
"...Tiffany."
A small smile graced her lips. She relaxed in the familiarity, reaching out to intertwine her fingers with the hand that lied lazily on her arm. She let out a sigh, her eyes shutted as she rub her cheek against the warm hand.
"Why are you here?"
Tiffany let out a small laugh, her free hand reaching out to brush away the strands of stray hair in Jessica's face. Her gaze soften, staring at the blonde fondly.
"This is my room baby. Of course I'm here. I'm always here."
Jessica smiled in reply, inching closer to the brunette. Tiffany understand what the blonde needed. She shifted so their bodies pressed together, exchanging warmth. Jessica nuzzled against the crook of the latter's neck.
"I miss you Tiff."
The latter chuckled, stoking the blonde locks.
"Silly girl. I'm always here."
"Its not enough. I want you to be with me every single second."
There was silence as the latter continued to stroke her hair. Jessica found the comfort in this silence, taking that Tiffany had missed her just as much. She pulled the brunette closer, her arm wrapped around her waist possessively. She sighed; the latter's hand now running up and down her back soothingly. Jessica eyes closed, finally feeling safe in the warmth. They lied peacefully like this for awhile until Tiffany pulled away. Frantic, Jessica bolted up, holding on to the brunette's hand tightly. Her eyes widen in fear.
"Whats wrong hon? I'm just gonna get some water for yo-"
"No, don't go, please. I need to see you. Please."
Jessica's hand tighten around the latter's hand. She felt so weak. So weak. So vulnerable. Tiffany frowned at the protest, settling back onto the bed. The blonde hastily wrapped her arms on Tiffany's waist, her body trembling slightly. Tiffany reciprocated the action by hugging back, her hands gently soothing the blonde.
"Did you have a nightmare again?"
The white light. The hallway. The man in white coat. The members faces. The black wavy hair. The cold clammy hand. The ring. Then finally, the face beneath the sheet.
Jessica nodded, taking a sharp intake of air. Her heart clenched painfully. The vivid images haunted her mind, her petite body shivering in fear. It felt real; too real.
"Please. Don't... leave me."
Jessica choked, her voice quavering. Tiffany pulled Jessica away and pressed their forehead together. Tiffany could see the fear, insecurity and uneasiness in the blonde's brown orbs. Jessica could see the warmth, comfort and love in the brunette's eyes. It eased part of her insecurity but something was tugging at her heart.
"Listen Jessi. I'm always here. I'm never gonna leave."
Jessica nodded, forcing a small smile to reassure the brunette. A thumb brushed across her cheek, wiping a teardrop away.
"Don't cry. I hate it when you cry. You make me feel so useless."
Jessica don't know when, or noticed that she start to cry until Tiffany mentioned it. She wanted to reply but at that moment, words seems to elude her. She nodded again, her smile spreading wider as she noticed a grin on the brunette's face. Tiffany leaned back, beckoning the blonde to inch closer.
"Jessi, did I tell you about the movie I watched with Leo when I went home last week?"
Jessica watched in amusement as the brunette leap out of bed. She rambled about the movie, mimicking the characters in the movie while adding her own flavor. She love it when Tiffany get all loud, rowdy and excited. Its just so her. The excited girl jumped back onto the bed, her arms waving wildly. Her eyes form into crescents, her laughter ringing throughout the room. She ran around the room, jumping and occasionally fisting the air. She blabbered on incoherently and clapped loudly as she laughed. Jessica laughed at the younger girl. She stared fondly as Tiffany flopped down on the bed, exhausted.
"It was great Jessi. Lets watch it together sometime."
Jessica giggled when Tiffany nuzzled against her toned stomach, her hands reaching down to stroke the latter's head.
"Sure Tiff. We'll watch it someday."
The blonde sighed, a small smile gracing her lips. She sunk back into the bed, stroking the combing her fingers through the brunette's thick locks. Tiffany shifted until she is at eye level with Jessica.
"Jessi, I love you. I really do."
Jessica reach out to trace the brunette's jawline with her finger. She brush away some stray strands of hair and tenderly traced her features. She took her time, her eyes following the path of her fingers. Her fingers dance around delicately as Jessica memorizes all the details.
Forehead.
Ears.
Eyebrows.
Nose.
Lips.
Cheeks.
Her digits stopped at the cheeks, gently caressing as her eyes travel back to stare deeply into the brunette's brown orbs. She want to remember this forever. This face. This eyes. She never want to forget it. She wants it embedded in her.
"I love you too Tiffany. I love you."
Jessica whispered. A warm hand move to run the length of her arm, a small smile on Tiffany's face. Jessica suddenly felt sleepy. She blink several times attempting to keep awake. The sleepiness persisted, doubling in intensity every time she blink. Her body felt heavy. She feels giddy.
"I love you, Jessi."
Jessica shivered as Tiffany's hot breath hit the sensitive spot on her ear. The ceiling was spinning and Jessica felt sick. She angled slightly and saw the brunette stare at her fondly, her administration on her arm ceased. Tiffany reach out to stroke the blonde's cheek. Jessica looked into her eyes. She saw something behind the fondness in the warm orbs.
Reluctance.
"Tiffany, I..."
"Hush baby."
A finger tap on her lips. The latter flashed her eyesmile but Jessica saw it.
Tears.
Jessica's head was spinning. Her throat felt dry . She choked and tasted something bitter hit the back of her throat.
"Tiff, wait. I'm not... wait-"
A sudden brightness hit her eyes, the bitter taste was more distinct now. A hand reach out to cover her eyes from the brightness. Jessica thrashed against Tiffany's unrelenting hand. She need to see her lover.
"No! No! Tiff, I'm not ready-"
"Yes Jessi, yes you are."
Tiffany plant a kiss on her nose, her tears falling on the blonde's face.
"I'm always here. Now wake up."
*
Jessica bolted up awake, the bed creaking at the sudden movement. She breathed heavily, her chest aching. Then slowly, she turn to look at the clock on the bedside table.
8:01am gave way to 8:02am.
She took a few deep breath.
And her vision blurred.
