Shut up: Flower Boy Band

Mar 02, 2012 04:02

I'm obsessed, people. I know I say this a lot, but sometimes it's closer to the truth than others; this is one of those when I really mean it. I'm as obsessed as I was with Dream High (my first drama; three days to watch it all), Sungkyunkwan Scandal (my favourite drama) or City Hunter (god, I was so damn obsessed over that one I got shiorita to watch it). And I may add... I didn't see this coming.

Ok, so here's the deal: I'm an Inspirit (for those of you who don't know: Infinite fan), so I kind of anticipated this because, well, MYUNGSOO and his perfect criminal face are in this. Then, somehow, I forgot about it and focused in a few other dramas... until lialy came and said "hey, why don't we watch this show this weekend?"

OH-DEAR-GOD, I don't think she knew what she was doing. But, instead of telling you the state of my mind during the next couple of days after lialy's suggestion (which you can imagine, anyways), I'm gonna talk about the drama.

What's Shut up: Flower Boy Band about?

Eye Candy is a high school (rock) band. Their leader is Byung Hee, who's (let's be honest here) a bit of a weirdo, but there are other five members, including: Ji Hyuk (the leader's right hand), Hyun Soo, Ha Jin (your playboy), Kyung Jong and Do Il (the drummer). They aren't the brightest in their class (nor they really care about it) but they surely know a few things about music, owning the stage and making their fangirls' knees go weak. And about fist-fighting, that too.

Well, no, I don't consider it baddass; but it couldn't be perfect, right? (c)

Halfway through the first episode (and this is not really an spoiler) their school is about to close down, and Eye Candy gets transferred to the prestigious Jung Sang High School, where they meet two of the most important things in a drama: the girl (Su Ah) and the enemy, a band called Strawberry fields, led by the talented Seung Hoon.

And that's when everything starts.

Why should you watch Shut up: Flower Boy Band?

BECAUSE I SAY SO.
BECAUSE I'M MAKING THE EFFORT TO WRITE A POST ABOUT IT AND THAT SHOULD MEAN SOMETHING, YOU KNOW I'M A LAZY ASS.
BECAUSE THE MEMBERS ARE AS HOT AS THEIR BAND NAME SUGGESTS.

1) Because of the characters.

(c)
The one thing I expect more than anything when I watch a tv show is character attachment. And for that you need well written characters. SUFBB's characters are those characters. The members of Eye Candy are really likeable and kind of endearing; you kind of wish you could hang out with them or cheer for them on a gig. You may like some more than others -- it's bound to happen, right? There are six of them! Yet, even though not all of them have the same amount of screentime, you can feel that all of them are real and three-dimensional, and that's something I love. And this applies to mostly every character in the drama; you can like them or not, but they are at the very least, well writen.

(Pst, you're wondering, I know: the main couple is fantastic; sweet, very well driven, such an otp ♥ )

Here you have my favourite characters (not that I think you care, but I wanna share cute gifs judge me):

Hyun Soo | Ji Hyuk.
Yes, they are also quite hot | (c)

And stupid. (c)

2) Because of the story, the mood. Because the drama is really well done!

This is a subjective matter, but the whole mood of the show, the tone, it's just amazing. If dramas were colours, most teen dramas would be pastel pink, while SUFBB would be a mix of red, black, grey, and some touches of bright colours here and there. You probably don't get what I mean, and in that case I can only say: WATCH and see it for yourself. Personally, I love it. It's somehow refreshing, and I've come to think that this has to do with tvN not being a major broadcast station in SK -- I kind of got a similar feeling from Daesung's What's up (which I'm watching rn, and can't.stop.watching btw).

The conflict is (I think) very well driven, the tension is constantly there, and the writers definitely know how to play with the characters' distinct personalities to make it work. The cliffhangers (sort of) are very well chosen, in my opinion, and the acting is on poing; you may not find geniuses in this drama, but there's not really a weak link amongst the main characters, which is amazing.

3) Because of the OST.

I'm freaking in love with this whole OST and this is a very, very rare thing. Honestly.

And this and this, if you're interested.

So, I haven't convinced you?

Seriously? High school rock band? Baddass hot boys? Fist fights? Good music? Still not convinced? WTF? (c)

That's fine. I suck at convincing people at 3AM, tbh, but you surely have gotten my point: SUFBB is good, is addictive, has fantastic characters with a good cast and great chemistry and you totally need to give it a chance. You may not like it, but if you do, or if you fall in love as hard as lialy and I do, don't thank me, and not, I won't tell you I told you so, just freaking come here and let's fangirl together like the crazy fans we are, will you? ♥

& if you have already seen it, please make a warning if you're going to comment with spoilers, but please COMMENT because I seriously don't have enough people to talk about this show and the stupid amount of love I have for it, its character and it's music which I've been listening nonstop.

And this is all, my dear flist. LOVE YOU ALL ♥
