Ouch

Well, I'm finally starting to walk again, after a week on my butt. My foot's still sore, but I can hobble around the apartment and up/down stairs. I may still take the wheelchair to work tomorrow, though - I'll definitely take the walker if not.

What happened was this: As I was getting a pop from the fridge last Saturday night, a wine bottle on top of the fridge fell. I stepped back to keep it from falling on my head, and in the meantime it broke on the door. I therefore stepped on a large shard of glass. Luckily, both Joe and Lee were right there when they heard me scream, and got me in turn into a chair holding paper towels to my foot, to the couch with packing tape securing said paper towels, and then to Crittenton, where I got 4 stitches, antibiotics, and orders to stay off the foot for a week. I'm fortunate to be living with people I can count on.

The week's been ok. I went to work in a wheelchair on Monday, and was told I could work at home for the rest of the week. Unfortunately, as I wasn't able to get intranet access approved quickly, I instead stayed home the rest of the week, calling in to meetings on Tuesday and Thursday. I've spent most of my time playing Guitar Hero, reading, and sleeping, with Lee taking care of me (cooking, doing dishes, changing my bandage, getting me stuff, etc). While this is relaxing, I'm looking forward to being able to walk painlessly and go to work without everyone who sees me going, "oh no, what happened???" The most amusing response I got from someone seeing me in a wheelchair, though, had to be this: "That was off the job, right?"
