Johnny Depp's not from France, he just lives in France most of the time. He has a home in LA. I thought Orlando was from Australia or something.... And why would being from France make someone ineligible?
Ack, I'm sorry, that's what I mean't...it's because he lives in France. "...part of his problem is that Depp lives in France, chooses offbeat roles and refuses to play the Hollywood political game."
I'm guessing that you have to reside, or maybe even be a citizen, in order to qualify for an Oscar. But I can be wrong, I'm no expert. Actually...I don't even watch the Oscars or anything. That's just my speculation. ^_^
reside in, or be a citizen of th United States that is...but *shrugs* From what you tell me, he only doesn't spend his time in the US...since he has a home in LA.
Yeah...but wasn't Edward Scissorhands, Benny & Joon, and Ed Wood shown in the U.S. also? Plus, I thought Nicole Kidman lived in the United States!? Here's the entire article...maybe you'll see something in there: Q. I think Johnny Depp, star of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, is one of our very best actors. How many Oscars has he won? --Trevor D. Nashville, Tenn. A. None. With the exception of three Golden Globe nominations--for Edward Scissorhands, Benny & Joon, and Ed Wood-- Depp, 40, has never been adequately recognized for his impressive body of work. In our view, part of his problem is that Depp lives in France, chooss offbeat roles and refuses to play the HOllwood political game. Will he overcome his Oscar curse with Pirates? We don't think so.
If you look at the article...well, I'd say maybe it has nothing to do with where he lives...since it's just the paper's view on the situation.
Well, it just says that because you kinda have to work for Oscars. You have to act well and be a figure in Hollywood as well. I have no idea about Nicole Kidman, though. I just know where she's from. He just doesn't try to make a name for himself, so he's never given any awards. But he'll be winning some kind of fan-chosen award soon for PotC, no doubt.
