It's a little funny when you're sitting in class and you notice the things people do. You see the one kid nodding their head slightly, opening and closing their eyes, thinking they're awake only to immediately fall back asleep. You see the other kid sitting in the front, paying attention ever so carefully, but what is he doing with that pencil? That's right, he's scraping or picking his teeth with his mechanical pencil. The kid in front of you, he's peeling his palm callous with his Bic pen cap.
I do things like this too, well, the head nodding, not so much scraping the plaque off my teeth with my pencil, but I do pick at the callous my writing utensils have created on my middle finger. (I rest them on my middle, not ring, finger.) Seeing people do these weird things just makes me wonder if people notice the things I might be doing in class. A little more self-conscious, but I'm not going to stop sleeping in class. I think everyone plays a role in the classroom and my role is to be the sleepy, Asian girl that sits semi-close to the front of the room and doesn't even care.
