Foggy Hogtown Boys
Today was spent eating piles of meat and running amok in downtown Toronto with greatringmaster. I think we spent two hours in the giant comic book store :D We cooed over the McFarlane dragon figures and managed not to buy any, laughed hysterically at the terrible Obi-Wan plushie and emaciated Kirk figurine and were generally loud and obnoxious. I had some SERIOUS geekouts over the Star Wars action figures because OMG THEY MADE FIGURES OF SOME OF THE EXTENDED UNIVERSE CHARACTERS OMG. I CAN HAS DRESS UNIFORM WEDGE AND BARON SOONTIR FEL AND A YUUZHAN VONG??? OOOOOMMMMMGGGGG SERIOUS GEEKAGE. I was very good and didn't buy any but it was haaaaard. I bought an epic Luke figurine for Mellie Lou for her birthday from the Star Wars UNLEASHED line (aka REALLY FREAKING COOL HYPER REALISM AND CRAZY ACTION POSES ZOMG) and this hilarious SW comic called 'Tag and Bink Were Here' which is the story of these two idiot Rebels who are accidentally involved in every key event of the entire trilogy, AND the prequels! It's pretty epic, I highly recommend it (if only for the amazing cameos in the background, hehheh ARTHUR DENT!). We also found a tiny amazing Chinese bakery and had pineapple buns and were slightly sick but SO HAPPY and discussed tv tropes and memes and Harry Potter and it was pretty amazing. AN EXCELLENT DAY.
We also watched the first half of Deep Impact, aka the OTHER 'giant comet is about to destroy the Earth' movie that came out the same time as Armageddon and DOESN'T totally suck. It's waaaaay more 90s-tastic than I remembered, especially the TERRIBLE HAIR and giant computers. And baby Elijah Wood! Who also has terrible hair! Srsly the only decent hair in the movie is Morgan Freeman and HE'S MORGAN FREEMAN (interpret that as you will). But it's oddly endearing once you get past the terrible beginning attempted plottiness and ignore Tea Leonie's equally terrible family side story ARGH. Mostly Elijah Wood. Aww, so awkwardly adorable <3
Tomorrow we are going for brunch to this place that makes my sister drool at the thought and then OSCARS PARTY!!! By which I mean watching the Oscars by myself and hopefully stealing the laptop so I can partay :D I am resigned to Avatar winning everything and will attempt but likely not succeed in not being bothered by it. Really, as long as Up wins Best Animated Feature (and really, nothing else is even competition because UP!!!) I will be happy. I really hope anyone but James Cameron wins Best Director but am also resigned to that. Sigh. Siiiiiiiigh. Mostly I watch for the pretty dresses and pretty people and whatnot. Shiny shiny Oscars! :DDDDDD
