[Crafting] Stitch Markers: Rohan and Temeraire

Jul 19, 2010 21:29

Remember a few posts ago, when I mentioned getting a bunch of jewelry supplies?

Yeah.  They're not for jewelry (well, not yet anyway).  They're for making stitch markers.  Stitch markers are a small tool used by knitters to mark the beginning of a row, waist shaping, or to separate pattern repeats.  This is me we're talking about, so of course I had to make themed sets.

Rohan, with green and silver beads and a horse charm:

And Temeraire, with black and dark blue beads and a dragon charm:

(Man, those pictures are really blurry.  Remind me to take better ones after I mess with the camera settings again.)

SPECS/MATERIALS
9 mm jump rings
24 gauge jewelry wire
Czech glass beads in various sizes and colors (11/0 black seed, 10/0 kelly green seed, 6/0 silver-lined clear seed, 6 mm faceted sapphire - I will probably use rounds for the blue from now on, since they're less expensive)
Charms for the "key" markers (to denote row beginnings or other special things)
Total size: 1" long for the "key" markers, 1/2" long for the others.

I think I've gotten the hang of the process now, and I can crank out a set of five in 30-45 minutes.  If enough people like/want them, I'll sell them once I get an etsy shop.  I'm also planning on doing other themed sets, and am open to suggestions.

The Temeraire ones have already been pressed into service, since I have started my other Epic Design that I wanted to do.  Without revealing too much about it, it's a tank top, and lacy, and dragon-y.  Ideally, I'd like to have it done in time for Celtic Festival at the end of the month.

...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

In all seriousness, though, I've already done about six inches in the last three days, so there's at least a shot at it.  I've put Lothlorien and the Rotating Rib socks on hold so I can focus on this one.  Wish me luck!
