Christmas Knitting 09

Dec 27, 2009 15:58

Now that all the gifts have been given, I feel it's safe to post these.  Picture-heavy post ahead; readers with dial-up may want to grab a drink and/or book.

Brian's gift:

Spiderman mittens.  US 3 needles, 1 skein each of Caron Simply Soft in Red and Black.  Ravelled here.  He also got a hat to match, but I don't have a picture of it yet.

Ethan's gift:

Closeup of the thumb gusset.  US 3 needles, 1 skein of Caron Country in "Charcoal".  Ravelled here.  He has already been instructed to pimp them out at school. :)

Dad's gift:

One-row scarf by Yarn Harlot.  US 8 needles, 2 skeins Lion Brand Wool-Ease in "Pines Print".  Ravelled here.  If I ever make this again (more than likely), I'll go down a needle size or two to make it a bit thicker.

Closeup of the pattern, brilliant in its simplicity.

Mum's gifts:

Lacy V Scarf and matching 2x2 rib headband.  US 10 1/2 and 10 needles respectively, 2 skeins Lion Brand Homespun in "Colonial".  Ravelled here and here.

Carly's gift #1:

Ace of Spades scarf, vamped up a little.  The original curled even after blocking, so I got some complementary sari silk (if you embiggen, you can see it at the top), folded it over into 3 layers so it was the right width, and hand sewed the scarf to the fabric.  (That part really, really sucked.)  Still, she loves it, and I'm pleased with the results.

There really are no words to describe how bright purple the yarn is.  Highlighters come to mind.

(US 8 needles, 1 skein Caron Simply Soft Brites in "Grape", sari silk, purple sewing thread.  Ravelled here.)

Carly's gift #2:

MOKONA IS MOKONA!!!

*cough* er, yeah.  A Mokona hat (character from Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles), with ears picked up and knit to the tips and detailing in embroidery.  US 10 needles, 1 skein I Love This Yarn! in "White" plus some salmon-colored scrap yarn.  Ravelled here.

(Why does Carly get two gifts?  1) The scarf was supposed to be for her birthday this past year.  2) I traditionally give her one nice/classy gift and one fun/anime-related gift.  3) I am a fickle person and make my own rules.)

Sami's gift:

BS-ed the pattern, US 10 needles, 1 skein Debbie Mum Illuminations in "Moonlight".  Ravelled here.  The sparkles amuse me no end.

White Elephant Exchange gift:

Camo tam (my pattern).  US 6 and 8 needles, 1 skein each Red Heart in "Camoflage" and "Frosty Green", knit forever and a day ago.  Sami ended up getting this one too.
