12. A Beautiful Sight
I struggled with this one, actually. I think the spirit of this photo meme is meant to be holiday/seasonal beauty, but December isn't doing it for me this year. The tree looks meh. The decorations, meh. The weather isn't so much magical as it is... meh.
My son is beautiful to me, but I don't like to put up current photos of him gratuitously. I could find stock photos of landscapes or sunrises or babies, but that would feel like I'm reaching.
So I took a day to think about it, and I decided that what's beautiful in my eyes lately is "morning". As in, a new day.
I've been fighting depression this year, and loss of faith. There's a lot in me that is "meh", if not downright broken. But I still have gratitude; more than ever, these little dramas remind me that life is fragile and impermanent, and every day I get to wake up and have another go at it is a blessing. Straight up.
So here's a photo that says "morning" to me - a view from the front of my house, which gets the most light, early in the day. Hence why all my houseplants live there. I love the way the sunlight makes them glow green. I love how that spot makes me feel.
