Various and Sundry

A number of my little babies have found homes recently:

"Day 188" - written in the process of grieving my brother - was published in the "Farewell" issue of Halfway Down the Stairs

"Stasis" - a weird little poem about infertility - is up in issue #15 of Up the Staircase Quarterly

"Apotheosis" - a speculative poem - can be found in issue #17 of NewMyths.Com

"Do Not Read This Unless You Have a Womb of Your Own" - another poem about infertility, and endometriosis in particular - was published in Issue 11 of Blood and Thunder Journal: Musings on the Art of Medicine (available in print only, and with a gorgeous cover I wish I could show you. Maybe I'll try to get the scanner working...

My prose-poem "Connections" (Hyacinths) is available in the "Home" Issue of Hip Mama Zine You have to buy an issue to read my piece, but I'd recommend getting a subscription even if I wasn't in it. It's an awesome zine that honors hip mamas everywhere, and touches on important and relevant topics through narratives and poetry written by smart, heart-ful women.

So that's a lot of happy, humble publication going on there. Please come visit my work, and check out all the great writing in these venues as well.

I'm expecting three more (I think) pieces to come up this month. I'll let you know when they are live.

In the meantime, I finished reading the Jack-O'-Spec: Tales of Halloween and Fantasy anthology, which includes my "All Soul's Day" poem. I highly, highly recommend this anthology to anyone who loves speculative writing and/or Halloween. It's full of myriad and interesting takes on the theme and includes pieces by award-winning and fabulously-published genre authors. I'm thrilled to be included in this book, and honored to have been invited to appear in a "Best Of Spec" anthology, to be published some time next year.

And lately I've been pouring through the Twisted Fairy Tales: Volume Two anthology, which came into being through the hard work and fierce determination of my darling Isabellerose23. My favorites so far are "Pru and the Gunslinger", by L.M. Magalas (a Wild West retelling of Rumpelstiltskin), "Gretel", by Ashley Hendricks (haunting, aching, beautiful prose) "Soul of the Ocean", by Rachel Ayers (aka richlayers)(mystic, compelling, perfectly-crafted - forget Disney's Little Mermaid), and "Plain Sister Pretty" by Heather Whittington (the Dancing Princesses gender-bended and transplanted into feudal Japan).

Both of these anthologies are available for purchase - you can find links on my info page. Seriously worth a look.

i don't have a tag for this yet, death by poetry, fiction
