- I walked in to my office to discover a cool-ass gift basket on my desk made by my talented co-worker, G, our marketing director. I won the Co-op contest to name our new mascot: a garden gnome statue! I suggested "Cooper" - you know, for "Co-op", but it also works on a gnomish-level. What a great pick-me-up.
- This morning the Kinglet decided he was going to "the city". We're not sure which city, or if he even knows what a city is, but he's pretty adamant about going to one.
- I'm doing pretty good with the whole "no pressure" approach to writing. I wanted to work on the novel yesterday once The Boy went down for his nap, but I also wanted to watch the last episode of "Six Feet Under" on the netflix dvd AND I wanted to spend some time in my basement office to feel out the new layout (I moved some shelves around and rearranged the second computer so that my workspace is much more ergonomic). There wasn't time for all three before the God-King came home and we had to go out to run errands, so I opted not to write and not to stress about it. I had an excellent, relaxing day off.
On the other hand, I haven't written anything in two weeks.
- My neurologist agreed to see me on Monday. So there's a good thing. I was kind of losing it this week from the pain.
- I think I may try giving up cheese for awhile. It's a known migraine trigger and I haven't ruled it out yet. Maybe I'll forgo all dairy. Who knows, maybe going dairy-free for 15 months while nursing the Kinglet brought out a latent intolerance.
If that doesn't work, I'll have to go gluten-free next. I've never shown any Celiac symptoms before, but it runs in my family. My cousin says I'd have to go at least six months to truly rule it out. Six months without wheat just to rule it out? Wheeeee.
I'm also going to try to give up elastic hair bands. I... I am very dependent on elastic hair bands. Indeed, one could say they are the only constant thing in my life since I started showing symptoms. I can't wear headbands because they cause me headaches. Same with glasses that grip the nose too tight. Maybe it's the constant tension on my scalp that's triggering the migraines now...
But I'm not doing that until I get a haircut. My tresses are far too straggly to go without binding.
- I was flipping through the Pottery Barn fall catalog over breakfast this morning, and I decided that if we were wealthy, I would buy barrister bookcases and espresso colored leather chairs for our library/sitting room. I would put in a real fire place. I would pull up all the ratty carpeting in our house and put down nice hardwood floors with area rugs. I would tear down all the wallpaper and paint the walls in earthy colors, with hints of cream and spice.
While I'm at it, I would pay someone to pull up all the river stones in the backyard and then put down sod, and I would plant low trees around the perimeter and put in stone walkways and iron furniture and a fire pit. In the kitchen I would replace the refrigerator and the range hood so that all the appliances are new and match. I would put in a new tiled backsplash and marble countertops and and I would find a way to put in a hanging pot rack and fill it with cast iron, stainless steel, and copper cookware. I would put in copper plumbing fixtures and, maybe, put in a bay window in the dining area, so that the space would be flooded with natural light.
I mean, for starters.
