Pat/Ji drabbles!

Jul 10, 2012 22:57

Rating: Maybe G, but only if you get picky.
Pairing: Uh... mentioned in the title of this entry, but in case there's still a doubt, it's Patrice Evra/Park Ji-Sung.
Disclaimer: Nothing true, except the quote in the first drabble (it's an actual quote and I squeed so much when I read it) and the video for the second drabble. It's only drama inspired by Park's imminent transfer to QPR. In fact, I don't even know Korean, so my mistakes are bad Google choices, ok? Oh! And dedicated to  acchikocchi who encouraged me to write them.

1. Better than a World Cup

“Everyone was joking with me when you weren’t here, saying that I don’t smile, but when you get back I smile again.”-
Patrice Evra to Park Ji-Sung

Pat was reading the same journal again, the journal that mentioned how France had been a disappointment at South Africa, criticizing Domenech, punishing the players for their poor performance. Ji saw his friend doing that, and sighed. Pat didn't have to torture himself with that. It was a team effort, not an individual responsibility.
"Now I know why guys say you never smile," he said as he pushed the paper down, revealing his friend's serious face. "You worry too much about that tournament. You forget it and focus on the season to come, yes?"
"Oh no, Ji," Evra shook his head. "You do not complain because Korea had some great games. We did not."
"It was not your fault," Ji insisted--and, all of a sudden, the Korean smiled. "I know who is guilty one."
"Who?"
"Mr. Chicharito," Ji nodded. "He scored penalty that defeated you! You should revenge. Want to put butter on his bed?"
Patrice changed right then. A bright smile crossed his sweet, dark face. God, that Ji. He always knew how to make him laugh, even at moments like this.
"You know," the Frenchman said, as they were getting the butter out the shared fridge, "I am so glad France did not fight Korea."
"Because you would have lost too with my amazing skill, right?"
A playful tackle followed suit, and pretty soon the ones covered in butter were the pranksters. But yes, Pat thought at that moment--having Ji there at United to make him laugh was better than a World Cup.

2. The Real Goodbye

They hadn't really talked about it--it was as if they had been avoiding the subject. But then, when the deal was settled, Pat couldn't really leave without saying goodbye to his friend.
His best friend at Manchester.
"So..." he said, trying the best to sound casual, "Queens it is."
"Yes," Ji answered, looking at his room as if trying to pull the scene in before leaving. "Queens. It is not bad. They could have kicked City's ass last final and that is cool. I wish I get to do it too."
"Oh you will." Pat sat down on the bed, next to his friend. "And we will be very thankful for that."
"All for United," the other man smiled.
Silence. Patrice broke it, mentioning:
"Well, and now will you really teach me to say goodbye in Korean?"
Ji's laugh rang out and filled the room.
"Still can't get over it, Pat?"
"You said I was stupid!" The Frenchman laughed back. "You could be nicer."
"Ok," Ji said, and added, "Pay attention."
"Oh yes."
"Saranghae."
It sounded something like sa-lang-hae. Patrice repeated it, once, twice.
"Again," Ji requested.
"Sa-lang-hae."
Pat had been half-expecting Ji to say something like "Now you're a puppy" or something. But that didn't happen. Instead, his friend seemed deadly serious.
"Na do saranghae," Ji finally said. "Na do saranghae, Pat."
The Korean looked so solemn Patrice couldn't hide his doubts anymore.
"Ji... what does sa-lang-hae mean?"
The other man lowered his head.
"You're not saying goodbye, Pat. You're saying 'I love you'... and I answered 'I love you too'. Because it's true Pat... I do love you."
The Frenchman didn't say anything--he just embraced Ji, his teammate, his best friend, his--it didn't matter, because they fell on the bed, both in that teary embrace, and they didn't let go.
