Vids!

Jan 26, 2012 15:11

I meant to get around to this earlier, but I... didn't. But I'm doing it now!

These are all links to the DW versions, because that's where I was doing my watching this year. There were a ton of vids I liked this year, but I think these were my favorites.

Babylon 5 - Binary Orbit. This is everything I love about Londo and G'Kar's relationship. The hatred and the respect, the regret and the tragedy, just. Londo and G'Kar.

Cabaret - Hot in Herre. This starts off fun and the packs a hell of an emotional punch. I think it might be the best vid this year (out of the ones I watched, of course).

Clueless - Let's Go to the Mall. Possibly the most perfect song/source pairing ever.

Die Hard - Sexy Back. This is everything awesome about the Die Hard series condensed into three and a half minutes.

Doctor Who - Awake My Soul. Oh, Sarah Jane Smith.

The Fall - A Butterfly Dreaming. This is just gorgeous.

Independence Day - Doomsday. This is how action movie vids that want to focus on the action should be done. It makes me want to dig out my copy of ID4 right now, even though I know this vid is making it look much better than I know it actually is.

Jeeves & Wooster - The Undeserving Rich. This is just fantastically fun.

Kamikaze Girls - Hero. MOMOKO AND ICHIGO I LOVE YOU. What, you wanted more than that?

Life - Children's Work. This is a completely brilliant look at Dani Reese and Dani and Charlie's relationship. I've already watched this one at least four times, and I can tell it's going to be one of those vids I come back to again and again.

Maru the Cat - Outside the Box and Papa's Got a Brand New Bag. If for some reason you haven't seen these two yet, just go. Now. Watch. Be happy.

The Middleman - Do it Like a Dude. WENDY/LACEY. I have priorities.

The Middleman - Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny. This is everything that's awesome about The Middleman. Everything. And using a song that perfectly captures all the genre meta humor the show loved.

Mulan - Ain't No Other Man. This puts a giant smile on my face. It's true, there ain't no other man for Shang.

Mythbusters - Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me. You know that Buster fic I asked for for Yuletide? This is that fic in vid form. And it's the best thing ever. Hee. Poor Buster.

Newsies - Express Yourself. This may be the best use of ridiculous dance numbers in a vid that I have ever seen.

Quantum Leap - Coming Home. Oh, Sam.

Red Dwarf - Better Smeg than Dead. It's Red Dwarf to theme from Friends. And it's awesome.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes - Feeling Good. I haven't actually seen this film yet, but wow. Excellent song choice.

Singin' in the Rain - Tom Cruise Crazy. This is fantastic and makes me ridiculously happy.

Stand by Me - Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise. This is gorgeous and moving and perfectly distills the essence of the film. Bring tissues.

Also, sga_saturday is having a fandom appreciation month, and I've been rather remiss in posting anything. So have three (relatively) recent SGA vid recs.

Anything for You by bironic - Team! This vid makes me ridiculously happy and I watch it whenever I need a quick pick-me-up. All of the team!

Ça Plane Pour Moi by
purplefringe - John Sheppard is such a strange and ridiculous man. Of course, that's why I love him.

Runs in the Family by lilly_the_kid - If I was making a top ten "best SGA vids" list, this one would be at least in the top five (and I've seen a lot of SGA vids). I think John Sheppard is one of the only male characters such an inherently feminine song could work for, and lilly_the_kid makes it work fantastically well. John Sheppard is messed up, and he knows it. His friends are too, but mostly him. I kind of want to point to this vid and go "That. That is the John Sheppard that lives in my head. Right there."

Uh, yes.
