(no subject)
So, since I've been, uh, rather immersed in Stargate canon for the past few months, I've also been on a massive vid downloading spree. I admit that I often ignore single canon vids for canons I'm not watching unless they've been made or recced by someone I really trust, and I don't always pay attention even then (a quick check of my "Other TV" vid folder tells me I have 0 Supernatural vids saved and exactly 3 Doctor Who vids). So I sort of missed all the good SGA vids while it was airing, and my Stargate vid folder was, as of last November, full of mostly 10 year-old SG-1 vids in 4 MB .rm files (which really don't look so hot on the hdtv I've got my media center hooked up to, I have to admit).
And so, a rec post of vids most Stargate people have probably already seen! Mostly SGA, since it's surprisingly difficult to find good SG-1 vids when you're not into Jack/Daniel.
Over My Head by budongchow - This is ostensibly a Sam/Rodney vid, but I think it's just as much about how SGA!Rodney has to deal with the fact that now he has to be Sam. He can't fuck this up, he has to be the awesome guy who saves the day, so what would Sam do?
Fiction by deltacephei - This is an episode-centric SG-1 vid, focusing on the season 8 episode "Citizen Joe". I know that's not a fan favorite (clip episodes rarely are), but this vid is awesome. It uses that framework of the everyman looking into the SG-1 universe to show just what a crazy and wacky and yet touching place it is, and just, I love it a lot. The download is expired, but the mp4 I ripped off the youtube stream is a decent quality.
I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker by kuwdora - I love all of Kuwdora's SG-1 vids (she has a great Jack/Harry vid), but this is hands down my favorite. Sam! Oh, Sam. This vid is, well. It's about how the canonical alternate reality/timeline Sam Carters really just want to be "our" Sam Carter. I kind of adore this vid.
A Lieutenant Colonel is Being Beaten by thingswithwings - Okay, this is. Well, this is basically a kink vid. But Jesus Fucking Christ. Feel free to be on your knees more often, John Sheppard. And I love how in a lot of it he's on his knees for himself. And the image of Atlantis rising, which could be taken in so many different ways within the context of the vid (submitting to Atlantis or metaphor for ejaculation?).
Red Moon by sol_se - This is probably the ultimate John/Ronon vid, and has been highly recced because of that. But it deserves it. The parallels drawn between them, the song choice, the clip choice, just. This is John/Ronon.
Why Walk When You Can Fly by Clucking Belles - TEAM. Just, team and friendship and family and love and team. You can't get anywhere by yourself. Focuses a little too much on John and Rodney for a team vid for me, but I still want to draw little hearts around it. Also check out Stress, the ultimate Rodney vid.
Language by newkidfan - This is fantastic song choice for John Sheppard and is extremely well executed. There's so much that he just can't bring himself to actually voice. This vid is like the essence of John.
If I Wrote You by lierdumoa - This is one of the few SGA vids I actually already had saved, and it's still one of my favorites. The sense of quiet sadness and the loss of innocence of season one, all wrapped in the framework of Letters From Pegasus, where they truly thought that this as it, they were at the end. You can't go home again. I just, I love this vid.
Battleflag by keewick - This vid just makes SGA seem so incredibly fun and action-packed. The clip choice is fantastic. This vid is just fun. And as long as you're on that post, check out Martina, a really powerful Veronica Mars vid.
The Temptation of John Sheppard by isagel - The only John/Rodney vid in this rec set. This song choice is just perfect. John's love for Rodney in this vid is painful and desperate and beautiful. It's a war story, and they're in a closed society, and just. Oh, John.
And lastly, hollywoodgrrl's SGA vids. I can't pick just one, I really can't. You have Digital Ghost, about Elizabeth and her tragic story. Right Here, Right Now for action and fun and whee!. Evening on the Ground for John Sheppard and how he takes everything onto and into himself. And Liquid Bird for... well, for SGA. Seriously, I love these things.
I hope at least a few of those were new to somebody, at least. Other than me. And if anyone has any recs for awesome SG-1 vids that aren't about Jack/Daniel (or Daniel-centric), please, please tell me. Especially if they're awesome team vids. Or about Sam, I need so many Sam vids in my life. Or if anyone knows of any good Teyla or Ronon vids. But mostly the Sam thing.
