On FBR/MCR Bandom and the Fourth Wall

Okay, guys, seriously. Yes, sometimes in this fandom the fourth wall gets taken down for a bit. But, well. Here's the thing. We post porn in public spaces. Most of us do not lock it down, and not all of us have "robots, go away!" flags set on our journals. And we are not the only ones who write porn - it's all over Buzznet, Quizilla, Myspace ( Read more... )

Once I got over the initial "where's my 4th wall? oh noes!" reaction, I agree to a point: We can't expect to hide from them, since they could be us: internet savvy and geeky enough to go poking around. Its different because few write Tom or Bob, and the fic others like Pete and the Cobras find isn't usually on LJ.

Therefore, it feels different. We had "its fic on Quizilla/buzznet/MySpace" before now. There was a sense of removal.

On the other hand though, if he has google alerts on himself, the LJ stuff is actually easier to find - google alert treats livejournals like blogs, but not myspaces or buzznets, and I usually get at least a couple of LJ fics a day in my Patrick Stump round-up e-mail. Usually they're things posted to slashatthedisco or patrickxpeter, but I have occasionally gotten links to fic I've actually read.

And if he does have google alerts on himself, it's probably easier for him to find fic about himself than for Pete or Ryan Ross - fandom is one of the only places Tomrad is actually talked about on a regular basis.

But I do see where you're coming from.

Hmm.

The back button is still fully functional, and no one (we assume) printed it out and forced it on him.

If he does have a google alert on himself, this means he's looking for something, which I don't know what I think and feel about yet.

Well, it's possible that he turned it on to get reactions about Empires from old TAI fans, which would make sense, and he's only getting links to fic as a side effect. ...and reading them because he thinks it's funny, maybe, I have no idea.

Now I'm really interested to know just how he came by her fic.

All the other instances have sounded like badfic written by those who lack the basic understanding of grammar and spelling.

That is a well written story, even if the pairing isn't one's cup of tea.
