So the family went camping again this weekend (see
http://www.roullett.org/baby/ for the cuteness from the trip), out at Olympic National Park. We love going out there, it's only a 3 hour drive from door-to-tent, and it's so perfectly beautiful.
This weekend was a little different though. As we drove through Port Angeles (the campground is about 5 miles out of town), there was a big banner over highway 101... "WELCOME TO TWILIGHTFEST" ...uh oh.
Now, PA already had a store in downtown called "Dazzled by Twilight". I'm not kidding. It has cardboard standees and gives tours, I think. I havent been in there. For those of you not in the area, Port Angeles is about 40 miles away from Forks. Yeah, that Forks.
So I thought I'd share some of the signs that amused us as we drove around the area during the weekend (we didn't go to Forks though, we didn't dare. We got within 10 miles though.):
* "Welcome to the Twilight Zone"
* "Happy Birthday Bella Swann Cullen" (Whoa! Spoilers!)
* It must have been Bella's birthday or something, because there was also a "Bella's Birthday Bash" at a local park.
* "Get your Bellaburger and ice cream" (Really?)
* "Fangs sharpened here" (at a dentist, of course)
* "No vampires beyond this point / Treaty Line ------->" (More spoilers? Do the vamps come out of the coffin in these books? There were a lot of teens taking pictures at this location.)
My personal favorite though -
* "EDWARD HAS A CRUSH ON YOU" on the side of a mini mart. Tell the fans what they want to hear!
I was amused by the whole thing. Part of me is dismayed to see so much hoopla for a book which, by all reports, isn't good. But on the other hand I really don't begrudge anything that brings income to the area, especially in this economy.
