Surely there is some subset of Murphy's Law that states that the moment you agree to take over a person's job temporarily -- either in case of a family emergency or while that person is away for a week on vacation -- will be the exact moment that every problem that person has even slightly ignored or helped create in the past will come to light, demand to be taken care of, and become your responsibility to fix immediately.

I mean, I can't swear to it as a universal constant, but around here, it seems to be the only thing you can always count on.
