Even from the hospital, I did my duty as a citizen of the USA and cast my vote. Alan took it to the post office last night and made sure it was postmarked correctly so my votes would count. So yes, I did vote! Woohoo! Luckily for me, Washington State does mail in ballots in many of it's counties, mine included. I am grateful for that.
How do I feel about the results?
Well, in all honesty I was not sold on either candidate. I waffled back and forth for a long time before casting my vote (and did quite a bit of research) and still didn't feel 100% comfortable with what I ended up doing. I felt, as I have in the past, that I was simply choosing the lesser of the two evils. Because politicians, in all honesty, annoy me.
That being said - I am interested to see how things go. My biggest concern is that there will be 'one party rule' in DC. I'm not ok with that, regardless of who is in control. I do not like the party system, I do not like career politicians, and I do not like the idea of a supermajority in congress (which is still up in the air, but doesn't look like will happen). Again, I feel this way regardless of the party that is in control. That, right now, is my biggest concern. So, as I said, I will be interested to see how things play out until there is an opportunity to change the control of power in congress. If things move forward, promises are kept, changes (that I agree with LOL) actually do happen - well, then I may reevaluate my feelings. I'll be keeping my eye on things.
I hope that, as a country, we can come together and support our leaders. We have a wonderful country with many freedoms that are taken for granted on a daily basis. The thing I hate about elections is the division it brings to us as an American people. I'm very glad it is over and we can spend the next 4 years trying to pull together before the division returns LOL!
I am pretty disappointed in the state measures that passed (and didn't) here in Washington. In fact, I'm not pleased with many of the state results. But I have a right to complain about it because I voted :) Woot!
Ok, that's all you will hear from me on politics for a LONG time. I don't like to talk about it in general, but as this is my journal, I felt I needed to record my feelings!
