Republican Elitism
The more I see of the Republican Party's actions in recent years - not just this term, but over the last decade and a half - the more I wonder how some of my usually intelligent and in touch friends could possibly consider themselves Republican.
Let's take a little quiz, shall we?
1) Are you conservative?
2) Are you in favour of tax cuts for the rich?
3) Are you opposed to immigration?
4) Are you opposed to abortion, even at the risk of the mother's life?
5) Are you opposed to gay rights?
6) Are you opposed to unions?
7) Are you stridently Christian?
8) Are you white?
If you answered "No" to ANY of the above questions, the Republican Party WILL slam the Membership door in your face. If you aren't white, but are willing to accept second class membership status, they will allow you in only to parade you around as their token "we are not really racist" proof. Don't believe me? Really, the core of the Republican "we hate Obama" campaign boils down to the fact that he represents everything the Republican party is pledged to abhore: logic, reason, reality, and brown people. I recommend all the sane conservatives wise up, break away from Teaparty-controlled wingnuts, and form a new party, finally allowing the Republican WASPs to die their natural political deaths.
