Upgrades

So, on my web and FasstCGI servers, I got FreeBSD/i386 7.2-RELEASE installed. Its awesome. Now I have them rebuilding all their software. Next on the list is the database server, and OMG.

I remember on these two it took a long time to build all the software that's on them. Now with the rebuild, a lot of software is also being updated to newer versions, so these machines will be fully updated.

Just for compatibility's sake, these machines are also going to be rebooted once the software update is complete, but that's going to wait until the database server's software is updated. Once the software update on the web and FastCGI servers is done, the OS and software update on the database server can begin. I'll make a full backup of its databases first, though, and that will mean Varus will be disabled and show the message saying its offline with a link to its twitter page.

After the database server is fully updated (OS + software), all 3 machines will be rebooted simultaneously. Considering the amount of software that has to be rebuilt, and the speeds and memory in the two systems currently being updated, the database server might not see its updates until tomorrow. We'll see.

The FastCGI server somewhat counts as two machines, because both of its jails actually use the same root point. The FastCGI server has two installations of FreeBSD and software - one for itself, and one for the jails that PHP actually runs in. The host system is getting its software updated first, then the jails will see their software update, and PHP will be restarted (actually the jails themselves will be restarted).

Sometime within the next 24 hours, the update will complete and all servers will have an updated OS and software. Only 2 more service interruptions remain.
