kitty stuff

I'm leaving on vacation for a week and this is the first time I've been unable to get friends to take care of my cat. Given his new medical issues, he needs medication twice a day which is a bit difficult for people to do. So I hunted the bay area for cat sitters and found out it's damn expensive. I was quoted on average around $45 to $80 a day and even $200 per day. Supposedly, it's fashionable to have a proper cat sitter so now they all charge extra for random services like taking your trash out to the curb, getting your mail, opening and closing your blinds so it looks like someone's home, personal "play time" with your pet, etc. None had a "drop food/meds so cat doesn't die" discount option. I finally found someone for $28 a day so $200 for the week.

After the fact, another friend told me about Pet Camp which seems ultra silly but is only $25 a day. The advertising is over the top silly. "Each custom-made, modernized condo and suite comes with a plush bed for stretching and snoozing. Or, if you prefer, you can bring your cat’s bedding from home. Comfy built-in shelves let your camper find that special perch for napping or surveying the kingdom."

Bay area pet people are weird.
