...You know you're a John Barrowman fan when you're playing The Phantom of the Opera in orchestra and you're playing "All I Ask Of You" and you're cheerfully thinking about John Barrowman as Raoul, and your orchestra teacher asks which part this is ("Doesn't he sing this to her in a boat?") and you want to reply huffily that it's not the Phantom, it's Raoul, until you realize the Phantom does actually sing it to her. In a mocking kind of way, but anywayz. Plus it took away the metaphor she was going for with the middle to lower strings, where we were supposed to sound a bit like a rocking boat or something.
Anyway. We practiced it with the timpani for the first time today, and it was so awesome getting to do the "DUH duh duhduhduhduh" part with the timpani. I got goosebumps. It's hard, but I'm loving playing it. It's not often you get to play triple forte several times in a piece.
I went back to my hometown this weekend for a friend's wedding shower, and I made The Boy go to our local pizza place, because it's supposedly only from the place where I live, nowhere else. I don't know if he was nearly as impressed, but I love it. I'm eating the leftovers for dinner. The shower was fun, but a bit bizarre. They were my best friends growing up and we used to talk about boys, Leonardo DiCaprio, Titanic, make-overs, etc. Now the conversation was about fiancés, husbands, and kids. It's kind of poignant in a way, but it was still fun to see what everyone's been up to.
