Went to go see State of Play today.
I noticed Paul Abbot produced the movie, and I also noticed it stayed fairly close to the original. The credits said, "Based on the TV series from the BBC" and someone in the audience said, "Really? It was based on a TV show?" I was about to say, "Hell, yes, and it is awesome." But I didn't.
Wasn't too disappointed. I was a little afraid the Americans would try to make it too upbeat, but I thought it did a pretty good job. (I did think they were dropping hints a little too hard at the beginning, but that could just be because I already knew whodunnit so I noticed all that stuff.) And I was sad they changed the ending. I liked the ending where Cal looks up at the newspapers coming off the press. However, in this version they just showed him writing the article. Whatever.
Now I need to go order the miniseries off of Amazon.
I also decided to finally read Beloved by Toni Morrison, because clearly I was looking for something light and cheerful for summer reading. *g*
