Her lips trembled, and she trapped the bottom one between her teeth blinking back the tears she refused to allow to fall. She gasped as her restraint broke, and pressed her tear-stained face into his shoulder. She drew a shuddering breath in and clung to him weakly.
“I love you,” She whispered, “I love you.” He held her basking in the truth of those words as they wrapped around his soul. Twining her essence to his own as surely as metals are mated in the forge. A perfect alloy, strong and flexible, glowing like the coals of a thousand fires banked low.
