Masterlist 67. Comfort
After a while, Arthur calms down and they rearrange themselves in a more comfortable position on the bed.
He feels marginally better by having Merlin there, holding him together in a way no one else had ever done it before. Close to him in a way he had never allowed someone to get since his mother’s death.
“Thank you.” He mumbles against the skin of her shoulder.
“You don’t have to thank me, Arthur.” Merlin says threading her fingers through his hair. “I hope you know I’ll always be here for you. No matter what we’re going through. Remember that next time okay?”
“I know that.” Arthur sighs, eyes glued to the wall. “I didn’t remember it was today until I saw the calendar this morning.” He chuckles humorless. “Can you imagine that? A son, who doesn’t remember the anniversary of his mother’s death?”
“Don’t Arthur.” Merlin looks down, searching his eyes. “Don’t drown yourself in guilt. She wouldn’t like that.”
“I can’t help it.” She kisses the top of his head.
“Just remember she would like to see you happy, okay?”
“I know.” Arthur says in a sigh and looks up, finally meeting Merlin’s eyes. “I’m glad you’re here, Merlin.”
