Morgana is waiting outside when Gwen parks the car and Merlin lowers the window so the girl can see her. She rushes over and climbs on the backseat.
“Thanks for coming Merlin.” Merlin smiles reassuring.
“No problem, Morg. This is my friend Gwen.”
Morgana waves at Gwen and the older girl nods at her through the rearview mirror before starting the car.
The ride is pretty much silent. Morgana, who usually can’t stop talking, is staring out with a sad look on her face. Merlin feels terrible and she honestly wants to beat some sense into Arthur for doing that to his sister.
“He was getting better.”
Morgana suddenly speaks, startling Merlin out of her musings.
“Huh?”
“Arthur.” Morgan clarifies. “He was getting better. This summer, he spent more time with me than the last couple of years since…”
She trails off, looking down at her lap for long moments.
“He was less of an arse when he was hanging with you, Merlin.” Morgana looks up and meets Merlin’s eyes. “You were making him a better person.”
Merlin stares at Morgana’s blue-gray eyes for long moments before it becomes too hard and she has to look away.
“He’s the one who pushed me away, Morgana.”
“But you’re the one who let him.” Morgana replies wisely and Merlin doesn’t have an answer to that.
