Today was the last day of therapy for my whiplash from the accident. So today was the day I proved to the PTs that I am really a klutz who has no balance to speak of.
It didn't help that Mondays are usually staff meetings for the clinic and my appointment time was scheduled for 1:30 which is when their staff meeting ended.
No problem getting in the door or walking on the tile entrance-way floor, but walking to the counter to sign in was quite another thing. Stepping from the tile to the carpet, which I have done with no problem what-so-ever before, my left foot decided to do a roll-under on the outside edge and I did a beautiful pratfall.
Needless to say I got everyones attention.
Now, my lack-of-balance is due to my weird muscle problems, not an inner-ear problem. Because of the ease in which I can no longer be centered on my two-legs-plus-a-cane I have learned to relax as soon as I feel my body heading towards the ground. This usually prevents any serious injury. I also have learned that trying to brace with hands or arms is not condusive to remaining uninjured. Besides, I have plenty of padding which tends to cushion a fall.
Nothing like leaving a lasting impression on the therapy group.
