Making an appearance

Jan 06, 2008 22:29

Hey there.

No, no I'm not dead. Seems that I failed to write a single journal entry beyond January 2007, which would hands-down make 2007 my most pathetic year at journaling. Mind you, I never promised I would be reliable, full of interesting and deep comments about the state of life and the universe. Nonetheless, perhaps one of my 2008 resolutions should be to update on a more regular basis, as opposed to dropping off the face of the earth once more.

I'm not making any promises, though.

2007 was a most interesting year. Of particular note is the completion of my university degree, which is a strange feeling. The last three years of life having revolved around university classes and university people, it's weird to realise that, although I'm returning for my masters and some of my dearest friends are doing their honours, I'm never going to have any classes with any of these people again. Some of them are getting jobs, one of my fellow meteorologists has a phone interview with the weather zone or some such tomorrow, which is exciting but bizarre. And, had I not turned down my job offer, in a couple of weeks time I would have been settling into Windy Wellington to begin training/employment as a weather forecaster.

But no, I'm here for another two years, as I study cloud seeding and thunderstorms with the exciting new radar in Brisbane, working towards journal articles and postgrad qualifications as a Serious Researcher. A strange thing to contemplate, at a mere twenty years of age. But it's the next step towards the future I have my eyes on, when I'll be dedicating my life to the study of climate and convincing the world of its validity (which they should believe already, but people are stupid). A noble cause, one I can be proud of, even if I'm never well-off or known.

I could go on about meteorology for a long while, but I'll spare you. The other good news about having moved into postgrad is, of course, that I'm forever spared of any more maths or physics classes. Though there will be statistics. Bah humbug.

What else happened in 2007... New Zealand sucked at the big sporting competitions again, as usual, to my dismay; Australia, on the other hand, perform so well that it's getting boring. And Ponting remains a twat, though I do love Symonds. Kevin Rudd won the election, which made me happy. However, I got moved into Bradfield electorate, giving me the joy of Brendan Nelson as our local member, filling me with dismay. On the other hand, state labor's win made me sad, as Iemma is terrible. The university trainline continued to be unfinished, although I have high hopes that it will be completed this year. I visited Melbourne for the first time, which was interesting enough, but doesn't compare to Sydney in the slightest. I went to a real job interview, and got offered a job, which was awesome. I still didn't get around to getting my driving license, though the Master Plan is to achieve that next month, we shall see. My mum got pretty nastily burnt, but she recuperated amazingly well, which is good. Good friendships were made and retained, a lot of alcohol was drunk, a few relationship trainwrecks occurred, but most things worked out eventually.

All in all, it was quite the interesting year, and 2008 will be equally fascinating, with the added fun of regular (paid) trips to Melbourne and Brisbane, huzzah. Although I did follow you all throughout the year as my lurksome self, how were your years, and what do you think of this year ahead?
