She may regain some or all function on the paralyzed side. May 8, 2005 I had a major stroke and lost my entire left side. It's been a very slow process, but I walk now without a cane. My walk doesn't look "normal", but I get from Point A to Point B on foot. I have a little use of the left arm and hand - no fine motor function, but they are of some use. I drive, I travel, I cook, I shop by myself. The doctors said that would not happen. If she doesn't have any cognitive impairment, she may well have a functional life yet. It will be different from her old life, but it beats the alternative.
Forgot to add - I also have a good friend who had 2 aneurysms go off in a 3 month period. They weren't sure she'd survive or ever be functional, but she too is alive, alert, and living her life. Like me, her stamina is impaired, and she has some mobility challenges, but we're both back to working with our dogs and doing the things we love.
Oh hon, I'm so sorry you have to go through this, Good thing is, that it's not as bad as what it started out to be. I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
