I think it's time to build an ark...and I don't even live in Texas!
It's rained ALL day. Mostly light until, of course, I had to leave work. As I packed up I heard the tornado siren go off and looked out to light rain, no wind, and light gray skies. HUH???
So, I figured it was a test. That is until I got into my car, turned on the local radio and heard all about tornados possibly touching down twelve miles south, heading northeast. By the time I got home (southwest, not in the path) it was lightly misting. I checked the damp basement, turned on the local tv station, fed the cats, and before I could go rescue a package (thankfully in a plastic bag) from my front porch it was pouring. It lasted about ten minutes and, worried about my parents' house losing power, I headed out that way--also not in the path of the tornados--only to have it pour for most of the way and me driving on the most dangerous skiddy road in the county.
I debated sitting in my car but finally dashed into their garage and within three minutes of being in their house the rain had stopped. Of course their basement was bone dry with both sump pumps running. I exercised, then headed back into town to the grocery, through the high water at 23rd and Ousdahl (for the townies) and got home in time for the KU game. The light rain of all day, that started last night, turned to heavy rain and with the over saturated ground my basement is wet in lots of lovely places.
KU lost on a last second field goal after we threw an interception. grrrrrr
But it does look like we might have a break in the rain.
A brief one.
Apparently this is all due to the hurricane and a cold front. I know we're getting nothing like Texas will be/is but I'm still annoyed. Everyone down there be safe! I'll try to resist the urge to fill in my basement with concrete.
And anyone who might have heard about tornados in eastern Kansas, they all went east of here.
I must really love my parents because usually when there's a tornado warning, I'm in the basement until the all clear sounds, but since I was already driving and the reports were all in the opposite direction (and, yes, I know tornados could have popped up anywhere), I figured what the hell.
In other news, I am actually working on the next chapter. It's just not going the way I want it to go and it's making me cranky. I know where I want to go--I know how the whole thing ends--but I have to deal with William and Angel first and they're not cooperating. *sigh*
I probably won't watch much football tomorrow because of the scheduled for tv Big 12 games, one was moved to tonight, one has been cancelled and one has been moved earlier in the day and I don't know if it's on tv. I have no interest in watching USC destroy Ohio State, either. I can't wait till Big 12 conference time so we get more televised games.
But hopefully that means I'll get some writing done while plumber boy is finally here fixing my toilet.
Or I could just watch Birds of Prey which my brother got me for my birthday! I also got two Catwoman tps, the Sweeney Todd soundtrack, the latest Emmylou Harris cd, and a novel. So, I'm all set for the coming rain apocalypse.
