Debt Sucks

Lovely.

As I was sitting on the couch watching the Tudors I glanced out the back door and wondered why there were men in my backyard.

Except they weren't. They were in the backyard of the new people behind me.

And the wooden fence was gone. (Their fence, not mine.)

They replaced it with a chain link fence.

Which means that my backyard, or the jungle as I call it, is no longer hidden.

Now, I have to believe the people had seen my backyard, full of trees and bushes and groundcover out of control, and, yes, weeds, but now to prevent getting reported for having a mess, I have to have a fence put up. Luckily only along the back and I do know a guy who can do it but, still, something I wasn't expecting to have to pay for.

*pout*

And as mom and I were cleaning the leaky greenhouse and noting the rotting wooden sills etc., we discussed me getting a home equity loan. I can use it to pay off my credit card (at 19% interest), put up the fence, take down a couple trees, get the interior painted next Fall, and put a roof or soffet or something on the greenhouse, which is basically unusable as it's way too hot out there in the summer. Basically I use it for drying clothes. If I can get one around 5-6% and have payments around $300-400 that should work, as I pay that much on my credit card debt every month.

So, maybe it's a good thing the neighbors did this, because I really do need some work done and that 19% on $5000+ debt is a killer.

*sigh*

Makes me wonder why I thought home ownership was such a good idea, though, especially as I'm about to head outside to work on the front yard so that white trash look goes away. At least the exterior of the house is attractive with the new siding.

Hm, just went and checked out my bank and a Home Equity Loan of $15,000 would only cost just under $300 a month, one of $20,000 would be just under $400 a month for five years. A line of credit would be a hundred dollars cheaper but has a balloon at the end. I need to talk to my dad about this but I think it's doable.

I'll also shop around to other banks, too.

yardwork sucks, homeownership
