Disclaimer: Don't own DC; if I did, Slade, who isn't in this fic, would never be so stupidly black and white, and Tim wouldn't be suicidal due to people dying on him. (And maybe he'd get laid.)

He calculates everything, his agile mind working the angles. One degree off and he'll land awkwardly. One degree less and his swing will take him past the mugger. One degree too far and everything will go wrong.
Angles of declination. Degrees of magnitude. Continuous calculations to survive one more day.
His smile is a calculation. Every small laugh. Every anecdote of his day. All lies to certain degrees, enough to keep his secrets.
To his friends, not that important. To his family, vital.
If they realize that he's slid one degree too far into madness, it will all be over.

Tim listens to Bart's super fast explanation with half an ear. It doesn't really matter how it happened, simply that his teammates are all in various stages of undress and knotted together in a heap on a Twister mat.
As he walks around them, noting who is blushing--Cassie and Cissie--who--Slobo--is groping lace covered breasts--Anita, who is snickering and totally naked except for a sock--Kon--he tries to figure out where to start unraveling them.
And knows this is why no one takes them seriously.
Though...sometimes it's just too funny for him to care.

It's all a fraud. He smiles, flirts, laughs at her jokes. He tells her he's happy she's giving him a second chance. They go out and he's charming, witty, even young. He can act the typical teenager.
But, it's all a fraud.
With Zoanne, he can't be himself.
Cassie knew everything, she knew his secrets, his losses, his pain. He thought sharing them would bring them closer.
It pushed them apart.
And he went back to the other girl and charmed her into going out with him again.
He tells himself it's better than being alone.
It's just another fraud.

A/N: Written for 64damn_prompts for prompt #60 Bright
Robins are to be the light to Batman's dark. They're to bring him a measure of joy. They're to shine brightly in gaudy outfits.
At first Tim glows. Every compliment from his mentors makes him happy and work harder. He laughs, if not easily, enough. Despite fatigue and bruises he feels good.
But the light fades.
The darkness is too pervasive. The villains too violent. The deaths too many. His mind too active to simply be happy. He doesn't fly with Dick's joy. He doesn't fight with Jason's passion. He's brilliant and dedicated, the best Robin.
But the light fades.

If you bottle your emotions for too long, adding on top of the seething pile of pain without release, eventually the mountain you've created is going to collapse. It might be slow--a trickle of dirt--tiny outbursts of anger and frustration--or an avalanche--screaming agony that can destroy you. Maybe something else.
But it will collapse. You can't keep everything inside. No matter how you wish to feel nothing, you're only human, a mass of emotions and weaknesses. Intellect only takes you so far. Emotions will win out.
You have to let them out before it's too late.
