So, I finished The "Diary of a Crush" trilogy by Sarra Manning for books four and five of 2007.

The second book didn't seem like a middle book, in that it was really good and often middle books, like middle movies of a trilogy suffer. Set purely in England, the tale of Edie and Dylan continues with new characters being added to the mix and old ones leaving. The couple break up and date other people--both quite evil yet well-fleshed out--and Edie continues to grow up. Like the first book, there's no tender-footing around the realities of teenage life--sex, drugs, booze, rock & roll--and I like that. There's also art and music and vintage clothing along with pop culture references that fit the tone of the book perfectly.

In the final book of the trilogy Edie and Dylan plan and go on a road trip to America. The USA coming through English eyes is an interesting viewpoint for me, but quite enjoyable. There's bickering and Vegas (they stay at Paris!) and James Marsters gets a mention. Edie and Dylan break up and reunite and continue to grow up together as they travel mostly through the south in an unairconditioned car in August. *g* There's a fair share of angst, as well, but then, again, it's very realistic. Sarra has a way of really making the reader care about her characters.

I highly recommend all three of the books.

Now to figure out which book to take to the hospital on Monday. Something heavy like "A Meeting At Corvallis" (which I'm in the middle of), something vampiric like the second book of Nora Roberts' vampire trilogy, or something totally fluffy like the second Shopaholic book...
